The Associate Director of Operations is accountable for supporting Clinical Operations lanes across the Western US (including Population Health, Clinical Health and Safety, Clinical Informatics and Affordability) in executing on strategic priorities such as organizational design, process engineering, and performance management.  The role also supports the Chief Medical Officer of Optum West and SVP of the Office of the Chief Medical Officer (OCMO), in additional executive needs and project management of cross-team strategic initiatives. This role is part of a team of internal consultants under the Director of Operations driving on these priorities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Builds deep, trusting relationships with business leaders to understand business needs and transformation priorities and partners to ensure successful functional transformation 
  • Plays a key role in problem-solving with the business leader to drive integration, improve processes, and/or remove roadblocks; anticipates areas of difficulty/potential unknown risks, contributes towards creative and scalable solutions, and moves to action quickly 
  • Develops and applies decision frameworks to identify and prioritize distinct tradeoffs to reach outcomes for complex programs
  • Drives work independently, determines next steps, highlights risk and barriers, and develops mitigation plan without extensive oversight 
  • Communicates effectively – both written and verbal – to align stakeholders at multiple levels of the organization around integration plans, barriers, and mitigation strategies
  • Supports execution of integration plans as directed by leadership
  • Works with clinical operations leaders to plan agendas and facilitate meetings and planning sessions between the business leader and senior cross-functional leaders

Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of work experience with depth in analytics, change management and strategic planning; specific managed care experience
  • 2+ years of experience working with clinical operations lanes relevant to the role (e.g. Medical Management, Population Health, Clinical Health and Safety, and Affordability)
  • Experience with business integration or performance improvement 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and project management tools 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Consulting experience with a recognized practice
  • Healthcare industry experience, particularly in a value-based environment

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
