As the Instructional Design Consultant within the UnitedHealth Group (UHG) Corporate Services’ Value Enablement team, you will be responsible for conducting training needs analysis, curriculum design architecture and execution of onboarding, strategic and complex personalized role-based training at scale.  Conducting ongoing evaluations and assessments to ensure quality and effectiveness of programs and recommending/implementing modifications as necessary. May involve development of online and web-based training materials.

 

This role offers a great opportunity to work on a wide variety of strategic and business critical learning initiatives, partnering with business training leads and subject matter experts to ensure successful launch and adoption with data-backed insights.

 

The Value Enablement shared services team consists of ~15 employees supporting the learning & development, training, communications, project management, and change management needs of UHG Corporate Services. Corporate Services comprises ~500 employees who deliver great customer service by providing expertise and enterprise leverage in real estate, procurement, environmental, occupational health, and safety for our 400k internal customers across UHG, UnitedHealthcare, and Optum.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Anticipate customer needs and proactively develop solutions to meet them
  • Recommend appropriate instructional strategies and innovative approaches, including learning curricula and pathways
  • Identify key metrics that measure program effectiveness and business impact
  • Apply curriculum design architecture for large scale learning programs
  • Develop and manage Corporate Services onboarding program
  • Develop strategic/business critical learning initiatives
  • Develop large-scale role-based training curricula
  • Perform training needs, job, task, and audience analysis
  • Apply effective adult learning models proven to enable behavior change and build new skill sets
  • Identify learning goals and objectives to determine what learners need to know or be able to do upon completion of training
  • Gather information about the target audience, including their existing knowledge, skills, and learning preferences
  • Identify the content that needs to be conveyed to meet the learning objectives
  • Determine the physical or digital environment where the learning will take place, including any tools or platforms to be used
  • Identify any constraints that may affect the training, such as budget, timelines, or technology limitations
  • Develop a blueprint of the course/s, outlining modules, lessons, and the content flow
  • Create assessments that align with the learning objectives to measure learner progress and understanding
  • Develop storyboards for digital content, detailing screen layouts, text, images, and interactions
  • Design activities that engage learners and support the instructional strategies, such as discussions, projects, or hands-on exercises
  • Curate content available from internal and external sources
  • Produce learning materials, including writing scripts, recording videos, developing slides, or coding interactive elements
  • Develop the assessment tools, ensuring they are valid and reliable measures of learning
  • Ensure all interactive elements function as intended, including quizzes, simulations, and any software or tools used in the learning process
  • Conduct a thorough review of the materials for accuracy, clarity, and alignment with learning objectives and revise as needed
  • Setup the physical or digital space where the training will occur, ensuring all necessary tools and technologies are in place
  • Provide training for instructors or facilitators on the course content and how to use any tools or platforms
  • Inform learners about the course/program details, including goals, objectives, schedule, and expectations
  • Make the course/program available to learners, providing any necessary support to access and navigate the materials
  • Collect feedback from learners on the effectiveness of training and learning experience
  • Evaluate learner performance on assessments to determine if learning objectives were met
  • Review data from the learning platform for insights into learner engagement and behavior
  • Refine course materials based upon evaluation results
  • Troubleshoot reported course technical issues

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in learning and development, including working with external vendors in technology and learning domains
  • Experience in applying various methods and approaches in performing training needs analysis
  • Experience in curriculum design architecture
  • Experience in designing and managing complex personalized role-based training curricula
  • Solid relationship-building, accountability, and critical thinking skills
  • Solid knowledge of latest innovations and emerging trends in leveraging technology for behavior change and sustained user engagement
  • Proficiency in digital learning platforms, talent analytics tools, and change management best practices
  • Mastery of human-centric design, assessment methodology, and ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to deliver next-in-class learning solutions
  • Solid motivation to learn and share knowledge, advocacy for building a learning culture
  • Solid time and project management, organizational and prioritization management skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent collaboration, emotional intelligence, networking, and communication (written and oral) skills, and ability to balance multiple priorities
  • Proven ability to influence without authority, resilient, build relationships, and work effectively in a large matrix environment
  • Proficiency in authoring, formatting, and publishing content using common learning solutions (e.g., EdCast, Oracle Learning Cloud, Adobe PremierPro, Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Office 365 Suite of Tools (MS Visio, Teams & Apps, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, SharePoint, etc.)

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
