Positions in this function are responsible for providing expertise and customer service support to members, customers, and/or providers.

As a Customer Service Rep. (also called Medical Office Specialist), you will learn an EMR system and multiple software systems. You will primarily be handling inbound calls from patients to assist with scheduling and general medical-office related questions. Sometimes you will run a project for outbound calls, such as rescheduling patients if a provider is out. You will also make follow-up and return calls to patients as needed. You will document every phone call. You will also attend team meetings and will have one every morning at 8:15 to review the previous day’s statistics. Statistics are recorded but there are no set metrics.

This position is full time, Monday – Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules between our normal business hours of 8:00am – 5:00pm except for one 30-minute meeting during the week that will occur either at 7:30 am or 5:00 pm depending on scheduling. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.

We offer approximately 4 – 6 weeks of paid training. The hours during training will be during normal business hours. New hire will have to come to clinic to pick up equipment and set up cell phone for call routing.

If you are located within the state of OR, you will have the flexibility to telecommute* (work from home) as you take on some tough challenges. 

         

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Answer incoming phone calls from health care providers (i.e. physician offices, clinics) and identify the type of assistance the provider needs (EG. benefit and eligibility, billing and payments, authorizations for treatment, explanation of benefits)
  • Focus on resolving issues on the first call, navigating through complex computer systems to identify the status of the issue and provide appropriate response to caller
  • Deliver information and answer questions in a positive manner to facilitate strong relationships with providers and their staff
  • Complete the documentation necessary to track provider issues and facilitate the reporting of overall trends
  • This role is equally challenging and rewarding
  • Within a high-volume setting, you’ll need to develop knowledge of insurance packages

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED OR equivalent work experience
  • Must be 18 years of age OR older
  • 1+ years of experience of healthcare experience
  • Experience computer and Windows PC applications, which includes the ability to navigate and learn new and complex computer system applications
  • Experience with listening skillfully, collecting relevant information, building rapport and responding to customers in a compassionate manner
  • Experience with problem solving to quickly assess current state and formulate recommendations
  • Ability to work any 8-hour shift between the hours of 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM from Monday – Friday including the flexibility to work occasional overtime based on business need. 

                        

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience in a related environment (i.e. office, administrative, clerical, customer service, etc.) in a medical setting using phones and computers as the primary job tools
  • 1+ years of experience in a high-volume call center environment

                             

Telecommuting Requirements:

  • Reside within the state of Oregon
  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy.
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service.
