Positions in this function research and investigate key business problems through quantitative analyses of utilization and healthcare costs data. Provides management with statistical findings and conclusions. Identifies potential areas for medical cost improvements and alternative pricing strategies. Provides data in support of actuarial, financial and utilization analyses.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Stay curious and informed about sources of medical cost trend within the US health care industry
• Develop a deep understanding of people, process, and technology improvements that can favorably impact medical cost trend and health care affordability
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for data-driven improvements in healthcare delivery and operations
• Develop SQL-based analytics using large healthcare datasets to measure health care utilization and medical cost trends
• Master storytelling using Tableau, Excel, and PowerPoint to deliver actionable insights to a diverse set of stakeholders – clinicians, administrators, financial analysts
• Assist in data strategy by performing data validations and providing workarounds as needed to improve data quality and reliability
• Perform financial modeling in Excel to quantify impacts of various initiatives aimed at improving affordability
• Embrace change and adapt to evolving market requirements

Required Qualifications:        

• Data analytics / data science professional with over 2 years of experience in the field of healthcare data analytics or a related area
• Demonstrable ability to frame business performance related questions as data-related questions – ability to “think in SQL”, read and refactor SQL code
• Advanced-level proficiency in using Microsoft Excel for financial modeling tasks, including cost-benefit analysis
• Have a blend of data analytics (coding skills), healthcare domain knowledge, and presentation skills
• Exceptional problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing challenges
• Superior communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Familiarity with healthcare data structures, terminologies, and regulatory requirements

 

Preferred Qualifications:        

• 2+ years of experience delivering analytical insights using data visualization tools such as Tableau

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable.
