Positions in this function is responsible for operating sonographic equipment and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. Responsible for daily operations within the Imaging – Ultrasound Department, including patient schedules, reporting equipment failures, and quality assessment.
Primary Responsibilities: (In order of importance, describe 4-8 primary duties including what is done and why. This is not a list of every activity performed. It is a summary of the most important tasks and their expected results)
- Following physician’s orders, performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations. (OB, ABD, Small parts, and Vascular)
- Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify record and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images
- Greets, correctly identifies patient, prepares patient for examination and explains specific procedures to be performed in appropriate confidential area
- Analyses sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history and communicates findings to the appropriate physician
- Accurately maintains patient imaging records, utilizing the Radiology Information System (R.I.S.), and PACS/Synapse application in accordance with HIPAA and company guidelines, policies and procedures
- Obtains pertinent medical history from the patient, prepares preliminary reports for radiologist and contacts referring physician when required according to established procedures
- Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area, and ensures adequate supplies are available, contacts service as required
- Monitors PACs/Synapse and RIS databases for integrity of patient information and proper image transfer
- May also be assigned to other modalities provided incumbent is certified or licensed in those modalities
- Will comply with annual mandatory Fit Testing as a job requirement

Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of a formally accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program
- Active certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
- Current CPR certification
- 1+ years of Ultrasound experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years of Ultrasound experience
- Experience in breast ultrasound
- Knowledge of sonographic equipment
- Knowledge of sonographic procedures and diagnosis
- Basic computer skills, RIS and PACS
Nevada Residents Only: The hourly range for this role is $28.03 to $54.95 per hour. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
