As an Optometric Technician, you will be responsible for overseeing and participating in day-to-day clinical care. You would assist customers and utilize your optometric equipment knowledge to work with patients.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Room patients; obtain ocular, medical, and family history; instruct patients regarding medications, tests, and procedures; coordinate patient flow; and update patient’s electronic medical record
- Perform testing as required and/or directed including measurement of visual acuity, visual fields, extraocular motions, intraocular pressure as needed; measure, compare and test pupils; and autorefraction as necessary
- Record data as testing is performed into the automated visual field machine
- Prepare exam rooms. Room stocking, maintaining inventory of supplies
- Educate patients on eye care. May educate patient on surgical procedures as appropriate/required
- Perform faxing, phone calls and other related clerical tasks
- Proactively monitor provider schedules for accuracy

Required Qualifications:
- Highschool Diploma or GED
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Experience working with computers for professional communication and medical documentation – Excel, Outlook, Athena RMS (or other EHRs)
- Proven ability to take an ocular and systemic history and accurately record visual acuity and perform refractometry, tonometry, and visual fields
- Proven ability to administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ophthalmic/optometric experience
- Proven exemplary organizational skills; willingness to be cross-trained and fill in for other staff members
- Proven ability to work well with providers, clinical staff, and patients
- Proven ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously in a busy, fast-paced environment while maintaining quality of work
