The Healthcare Economics Manager will primarily be responsible for statistical evaluations of efforts to improve member health and provide ongoing analytical support for these programs. As a subject matter expert, the Manager Healthcare Economics will creatively support data management and track key performance metrics. They will proactively and independently assess new opportunities to advance Medicare Advantage member healthcare and investigate new business areas of interest.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Use SAS to assist in designing and completing retrospective statistical studies to evaluate clinical program performance
  • Use SQL to construct claims-based datasets
  • Construct polished and dynamic MS Excel models to satisfy analytical requests
  • Understand and interpret key data driven health metrics (i.e. prevalence, medical cost trends, healthcare utilization, etc.) to inform ongoing clinical program performance
  • Provide ongoing and meaningful communications to requestors on project status, results, and conclusions from analyses

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, actuarial science, health services research, economics, or a related degree
  • 3+ years analytical experience in financial analysis, healthcare economics, program evaluation, or related discipline utilizing highly complex healthcare data
  • Knowledge of statistical methods (multivariate regression, tests of significance, etc.)
  • Proficiency in either SQL to create data tables or SAS to conduct statistical analysis
  • Proficiency working with formulas, pivots, calculations, graphs, etc. in MS Excel
  • Solid problem-solving skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree, such as an MPH or MS
  • Solid interpersonal skills and ability to interact collaboratively with internal customers across multiple departments and business segments
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with Medicare Advantage
  • Experience working with medical claims data
  • Experience presenting analytical summaries to key stakeholders
  • Ability to draw meaningful and actionable conclusions from analyses

The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable.
