The Senior Director of AI Enablement is responsible for leading the strategic direction and execution of AI initiatives across Provider Operations.  This role focuses on delivering impactful AI processes and technologies that improve quality and efficiency and align with organizational goals.

Accountable for the development and execution of transformational AI strategies that are actionable and deliver scalable, results-oriented solutions.

The individual works closely with product leadership, technology teams, and business units to drive AI initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead a high-performing team of AI experts, providing mentorship, guidance, and support to foster a culture of innovation and excellence
  • Provide thought leadership and expert guidance on AI trends, technologies, and best practices
  • Play a key role in establishing credibility and visibility of a new and growing hybrid AI team
  • Accountable for the overall governance, performance and results of Provider Operations
  • Prepare and present information for a diverse and executive-level audience, ensuring clear and effective communication of transformational AI projects and outcomes
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify AI opportunities across various business units and, develop customized solutions to address specific challenges that will improve quality, streamline workflows and drive efficiency and cost-effectiveness
  • Ensure that transformational AI projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget, while meeting quality and performance standards
  • Employ visualization tools for model testing, results presentation, and data pattern analysis. Design metrics for model selection and performance monitoring
  • Stay abreast of AI research advancements, industry best practices, to ensure all AI initiatives remain at the forefront of innovation and compliance. Actively contribute to proof-of-concept tests for new processes and technologies
  • Establish partnerships with external AI vendors, research institutions, and startups to leverage external expertise and accelerate transformation
  • Drive innovation by exploring emerging AI technologies evaluating their potential impact on the business, and recommending strategic investments
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of transformational AI projects and initiatives, using metrics and KPIs to drive continuous data-driven recommendations for improvement and innovation
  • Establish effective change management practices and communication strategies

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in AI research, AI strategy development, and implementation with direct experience focused on scaling AI solutions
  • Experience with direct people management experience (including leading leaders who build/lead teams), including building and retaining teams
  • Proven track record of identifying opportunities for AI to create value and quality, improve efficiency and drive innovation within a large, complex organization
  • Proven solid technical expertise in AI and machine learning, including experience with AI frameworks, tools, and technologies
  • Proven ability to develop and articulate a clear vision for how AI can be utilized to achieve business goals
  • Proven success in generating measurable business impact from analytics in a complex organization
  • Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present effectively to various internal and external audiences, including business functions, IT, Legal, and third-party vendors

The salary range for this role is $150,200 to $288,500 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
