Manages a specific good or service available externally on the market that can be sold stand-alone, and that directly generates revenue. Responsible for the full product lifecycle management, including: strategy, design, development, management and end of life of new, existing or acquisition products. Leverage market insights to understand market/customer needs to identify new opportunities or adjust current product offerings. Accountable for delivering product performance against expectations and updates changes to a product portfolio to improve competitive position, and optimal product performance to meet customer and market needs. Partner with internal or external stakeholders (key customers, product partnerships, etc.) to define and drive future product direction.
Core Tasks
- Drive product vision and strategy
- Manage the whole product across the lifecycle using defined development process (Lifecycle Management)
- Know the market to effectively identify and frame new product opportunities (Ideate)
- Define solutions with high-value requirements, a compelling business case, clear product positioning, priority and strategic impact (Define)
- Partner with stakeholders to enable successful development and delivery of commercialized solutions (Build/Launch)
- Manage ongoing product performance, expansion, financial health, roadmap and end-of-life decisions as appropriate (Manage/Sunset)
- Serve as the product champion and subject matter expert for business and functional partners

Primary Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership, management, coaching / mentoring to others
- Has P&L ownership of portfolio of products
- Establishes vision and inspires ecosystem to march towards vision and business objectives
- Resourceful in managing multiple cross organizational and external relationships
- Proactively identifies needs/priorities of the audience and provides relevant information when sharing insights, including facts and explanation of decision-making criteria
- Effectively presents product opportunities in senior leadership discussions / funding decisions
- Effectively connects multiple-asset strategy to a portfolio strategy; creates portfolio strategy documentation (roadmap)
- Able to evangelize and foster reuse across portfolios
- Responsible for driving innovation in portfolio of products
- Tells the story of the product, both internally and externally; provides subject matter expertise; joins sales teams on calls, to offer expertise
- Translates buyer needs and decision criteria into actionable plans
- Able to explain competitive landscape and how products fits into it
- Understands how the market trends relate to and inform opportunities specific to their product/service area
- Observes customer interactions with product; Dialogues with stakeholders on implications and modifications
- Contributes to sales channel strategy development and aligns with customer business rhythms and activities
- Defines user / buyer characteristics; Translates buyer needs and decision criteria into actionable plans
- Contributes to sales channel strategy development that aligns with customer business rhythms and activities; has awareness of internal budget cycles
- Identifies and accesses relevant data to build a compelling business case in a self-directed manner
- Partners with finance to complete the cost/benefit analysis and track forecasts to ensure the product is performing as expected
- Prioritizes roadmap and articulates a logical, iterative approach to delivering the customer solution; May serve as lead product manager in an agile environment
- Build PoV in collaboration with technical leadership on leveraging specific emerging technologies to solve important market problems
- Negotiates win-win solutions across teams and lines of business (cross application / cross-portfolio)
- Participates in organizing customer event/summits as required by the portfolio/organization
- Uses an understanding of the complex relationships among the organization’s leaders to facilitate successful outcomes; Uses an awareness and understanding of the organization’s environment and culture when recommending strategies and seeking buy in / support
- Uses an understanding of the organization’s processes, systems, and policies to facilitate successful outcomes; Influences direction setting, facilitates decision-making, and resolves conflicts
- Motivates stakeholders to support product vision and goals; Identifies success criteria and achieves consensus on strategies, requirements, and roadmap
- Holds self-accountable for meeting high performance standards and agreed upon deliverables, taking responsibility for outcomes of decisions and actions
- Facilitates the decision-making process across teams. Seeks input from others to identify and analyze options, selecting a course of action based on the best fit with desired outcomes
- Embraces and champions the need for change; Provides tools to support change; Identifies and implements strategies to gather support and achieve adoption of change within own area of responsibility

Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years prior product management experience
- Background in developing strategies to take a new product to market
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years working on software product development
- Payment Integrity and/or Revenue Cycle Management experience

Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $104,700 to $190,400 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
