The Associate General Counsel role at Optum Insight is primarily responsible for providing business legal advice to a variety of business lines within Optum Insight that provide products and services to health care providers. This role will have a high level of interaction with internal business units, external customers, and strategic partners to provide timely and practical updates and counsel on various legal and regulatory issues.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Proactively identify and resolve, and counsel internal clients on, regulatory and related legal matters affecting the Optum Insight businesses
- Assist in counseling business groups on strategic business initiatives, including the development and delivery of new products and services
- Develop best practices, including policies and procedures, for addressing emerging legal and business risks
- Advise large business units, or multiple markets/sites
- Assist in the management of outside counsel
- Assist in the design, preparation, and negotiation of complex commercial agreements and related documents associated with Optum Insight products and services
- Participate in and lead negotiations and consultative discussions with key customers and vendors
- Collaborate with colleagues across the Optum and UnitedHealth Group legal departments and businesses

Required Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree
- Juris Doctorate degree and Bar admission, in good standing, in at least 1 U.S. State
- 8+ years of experience as a practicing lawyer with law firm and/or in-house experience
- Knowledge of state and federal health care and related laws
- Demonstrated understanding of business problems related to assigned legal projects
- A proven track record demonstrating the ability to independently make decisions regarding complex legal and corporate issues
- Proven solid verbal and written communication skills, as well as excellent presentation skills
- Proven ability to build and maintain rapport with superiors, peers, subordinates and internal and external company contacts
- Proven ability to evaluate and determine appropriate legal course of action to meet business unit needs
- Proven ability to operate in a matrixed environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience advising clients in the development of new products and services, including legal issues raised by innovation in the health care field
- Experience developing complex health care technology and services transactions involving multiple lines of business, including business process and information technology outsourcing arrangements
- Experience advising clients regarding the federal False Claims Act, Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark Law
- Understanding of legal issues in data analytics, the use of big data in research and product development, and data de-identification
- Candidates that are local to MN are preferred (even if telecommuter) with the ability to work at the Eden Prairie Optum Campus

The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
