The Referral Clerk coordinates and facilitates the process of internal and external referrals. This includes interaction with patients, physicians, referral providers, and health plans.

This position is full time, Monday – Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime. Our office is located at 3680 NW Samaritan Drive, Corvallis, OR.

This will be paid on-the-job training and the hours during training will be 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM PST from Monday – Friday.

 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Will participate and maintain a culture within The Corvallis Clinic consistent with the content outlined in the Service and Behavioral Standards document; To this end, employee will be expected to read, have familiarity, and embrace the principles contained within
  • Prepares referral information received from physicians
  • Reviews referral and pre – authorization / registration information for appropriateness of referral
  • Verifies accuracy of referral request or service record and modify patient information as required
  • Responds to inquiries from providers, patients and staff regarding referrals and registration
  • Verifies Workers Compensation documents for completeness and submit all required documentation per WC protocols
  • Obtains Insurance authorization and schedule Injection series appointments
  • Provides back – up for the department Surgical Scheduler as applicable per department
  • Contacts patients prior to scheduled surgeries:
    • Ensures all pre – operative tests have been completed and results are posted in patient chart
    • Ensures all pre – operative instructions are clear and address or direct patient questions to the appropriate person
  • Retrieves surgical reports and dictation from hospital utilizing Epic system for physician review and inclusion in patient’s electronic medical record
  • Manages portal requests
  • Manages all doctors’ schedules (block when provider is out, moves patients who need to be moved, makes sure that the template is followed, maintains waitlists)
  • Manages hold documents in Athena

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED OR equivalent years of experience
  • Must be 18 years of age OR older
  • 1+ years of experience in a medical office, front desk position with referral experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of managed care benefits
  • Computer input skills and word – processing skills
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Organizational and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work any of our shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.

 

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to work compatibly with the public and other staff members
  • Ability to assess and evaluate medical information

 

The hourly range for this role is $16.00 to $28.85 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
