Optum, an industry leader in healthcare implementation and consulting services, is looking for an Associate Vice President of Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI). The AVP oversees the CDI operations for multiple hospital clients nationwide. Ideal candidates will have prior CDI leadership experience leading large scale projects in the acute care setting and conducting gap analysis. This is a full-time position that would allow employees to see career growth while taking on challenging engagements around the United States.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Direct experience in working as a CDI Leader or in development of CDI program in the acute care setting and understanding of CDI program infrastructure, workflow and reporting/metrics
  • Experience leading a large scale consulting project or driving implementation of a client CDI program
  • Proven success in delivering value to customers through the CDI programming
  • Solid communication skills including the abilities to present effectively, actively listen and influence/negotiate
  • Experience in conducting gap analysis, identification of risk and opportunity and development of findings and recommendations, including development of a Road Map
  • CDIP gap analysis experience preferred but qualified candidates may have comparable experience with other similar initiatives
  • Solid understanding of both clinical, HIM, Quality and Case Management workflow

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist/Professional (CCDS/CDIP) credentials through AHIMA or ACDIS
  • 10+ years of experience working as a CDI Specialist
  • 5+ years of experience working as a CDI Leader or in development of CDI program in the acute care setting and understanding of CDI program infrastructure, workflow and reporting/metrics
  • Experience managing Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) programs for multiple hospitals simultaneously
  • Experience in conducting gap analysis, identification of risk and opportunity and development of findings and recommendations, including development of a Road Map; CDIP gap analysis experience preferred but qualified candidates may have comparable experience with other similar initiatives
  • Operational Leadership experience
  • Proficient in ICD10 Diagnosis/Procedures Codes, MS-DRG reimbursement and clinical documentation requirements
  • Comfortable with deep analysis of CDI and hospital revenue cycle KPI’s and the ability to successfully analyze and explain monthly changes in metrics
  • Has facilitated physician education or has experience in working directly and communicating with physicians
  • Ability to travel nationwide as needed up to 50%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS degree
  • License/credential: RN, NP, PA, MD, RHIA, RHIT
  • ICD-10 experience

The salary range for this role is $150,200 to $288,500 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
