Welcome to the Optum Clinical Decision Support (CDS) team! We enhance clinical decision-making and improve patient outcomes through our suite of clinical tools. Our team includes experts in engineering, clinical informatics, UX, and data science, working together to deliver high-value care and reduce medical costs.
We develop and deploy CDS applications that assist care teams with decision-making and productivity, ensuring interoperability and scalability. Our platform services solve last-mile challenges, allowing seamless integration into digital workflows.
The tech writer role at Optum Clinical Decision Support (CDS) involves creating clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation for our suite of clinical tools. You’ll work closely with experts in engineering, clinical informatics, UX, and data science to translate complex technical information into accessible content for both technical and non-technical users.
Your primary responsibilities will include developing tutorials, manuals, and web-based documents, conducting interviews with users and technical staff to gather data, and ensuring all documentation meets high-quality standards. This role is crucial in enhancing clinical decision-making, improving patient outcomes, and driving efficiency across the organization. Primary Responsibilities:
- Designing, developing, and implementing customized technical material for various publications, such as tutorials, manuals, and web-based documents for both technical and non-technical users
- Conducting interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation
- Producing content that meets the needs of consumers, satisfies technical requirements, and conforms to company documentation standards
- Reviewing and editing content to ensure accuracy, consistency, and high-quality standards
- Assesses and interprets customer needs and requirements
- Identifies solutions to non-standard requests and problems
- Solves moderately complex problems and/or conducts moderately complex analyses
- Translates concepts into practice
- Provides explanations and information to others on difficult issues
- Coaches, provides feedback, and guides others
- Acts as a resource for others with less experience

Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated technical proficiency: The ability to understand and translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation. This includes creating tutorials, manuals, and web-based documents for both technical and non-technical users
- Proven communication skills: Solid written and verbal communication skills are essential. This involves conducting interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation and ensuring that the produced content meets the needs of consumers and satisfies technical requirements
- Demonstrated attention to detail: A keen eye for detail to ensure that all documentation is accurate, consistent, and conforms to company standards. This includes reviewing and editing content to maintain high-quality standards
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the healthcare or clinical decision support industry
- Demonstrated familiarity with clinical informatics and healthcare interoperability standards
- Proficiency in using documentation tools and software
- Proven attention to detail and ability to maintain high-quality standards in documentation

The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
