As a Senior Principal Data Scientist specializing in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), you will lead the strategic development and deployment of AI/ML technologies to drive innovative solutions that align with our business goals. You will take on complex challenges, transforming data into actionable insights and advanced models to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency across the organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of advanced AI/ML models and algorithms to solve complex business problems, optimizing performance and scalability
  • Conduct cutting-edge research to stay ahead of industry trends, contributing to the continuous advancement of our AI/ML capabilities
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with various departments to integrate AI/ML solutions that streamline processes and improve outcomes
  • Serve as an AI/ML expert and consultant, providing guidance and expertise to internal teams and stakeholders, ensuring projects are executed with precision and innovation
  • Uphold ethical standards in AI/ML practices, ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies such as the MLRB (Machine Learning Review Board) and RUAI (Responsible Use of AI)
  • Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment and understanding of AI/ML initiatives
  • Lead project management efforts, from conceptualization to deployment, including resource allocation, timeline coordination, and risk mitigation
  • Drive the adoption of suitable AI/ML tools, frameworks, and best practices within the organization
  • Facilitate a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing, mentoring team members and promoting professional development in AI/ML disciplines
  • Monitor and optimize the performance of deployed models, incorporating feedback and data to refine and improve solutions continually

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in data science, with a proven track record of leading AI/ML initiatives from conception to successful implementation
  • 6+ years programming experience in languages such as Python / R, or Scala. And JupyterHub for IDE
  • 5+ years of experience of working in Healthcare IT
  • Experience on at-least one application with setting up MLOps to design production pipelines to transform ML Models into engineering products
  • 1+ years of experience within various AI/ML methodologies, tools, and platforms like: Logistic Regression, Random Forest, Gradient Boosted Trees, Neural Networks – BERT, Bias and fairness tools 
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing complex projects and cross-functional teams with mandatory 1 team leading experience in executing a Data Science project resulting in positive measurable business in value

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience of Provider and Clinical care functions like Risk Stratifications, Clinical Utilization Management and Clinical Decisions, Post-Acute or Long Term or Ambulatory care areas
  • Proven commitment to ethical AI/ML practices and a thorough understanding of industry regulations and guidelines
  • Proven excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage diverse audiences

The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
