Physical Therapy Assistant

Position in this function is responsible for performing physical therapy patient care not requiring constant supervision of technical details in accordance with the treatment plan. Performs and applies a variety of physical therapy procedures and modalities to a variety of patients within compliance of the State of California Physical Therapy Practice Act, the APTA Code of Ethics and Optum policies and procedures.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate Optum’s commitment to superior customer service, including quality, care and concern with each and every internal and external customer
- Consistently demonstrates technical proficiency in physical therapy treatment implementation
- Implements, progresses and adjusts the physical therapy treatment plan as appropriate to changes in patient status, and provides for the safety and well-being of the patient during the treatment session
- Explains the physical therapy procedures and equipment to patients and checks for understanding
- Documents the patient’s treatments and responses in the physical therapy chart and completes all documentation in an accurate, legible and timely manner
- Reports any and all changes in the patient’s condition to the Physical Therapist as immediacy dictates
- Acts as Clinical Instructor (CI) and mentor to Physical Therapy Assistant students
- Maintains an on-time patient appointment schedule in accordance with established department standard for productivity Alters schedule to meet department of patient needs. Maintains productivity outside of patient schedule
- Self-identifies potential unsafe systems, processes and/or situations, and reports them using the appropriate forms to the appropriate employee
- Maintains a clean, neat and safe environment for patients and staff according to company and department policies
- Assists in the orientation and training of new staff members, and the development of new procedures as required
- Performs routine maintenance of clinical and non-clinical areas and equipment as needed
- Maintains professional growth within the department though participation in external continuing education courses
- Adheres to Universal Precautions at all times
- Adheres to safety policies and procedures at all times
- Uses, protects, and discloses Optum patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards

Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience
- Graduate of APTA-accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program
- Current California Physical Therapy Assistant license
- Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers (AHA) or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (American Red Cross)
Preferred Qualification:
- 1+ years of experience working as a Physical Therapy Assistant
The hourly range for this role is $23.70 to $46.35 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
