Positions in this function includes those responsible for initial triage of members, administrative intake of members or managing the admission/discharge information post-notification, working with hospitals and the clinical team. Includes managing incoming calls, managing requests for services from providers/members, providing information on available network services and transferring members as appropriate to clinical staff. Manages the referrals process, processes incoming and outgoing referrals, and prior authorizations. This function includes intake, notification and census roles.
Provides coordination and oversight for the bariatric surgery program. Works with multidisciplinary care team. Manages coordination of care for patients in the bariatric program and related duties.
This position is part time, 3 days/week with flexible hours, Monday – Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our shift schedules during our business hours. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime. Our office is located at 123 Summer Street, Worcester, MA
We offer 4 weeks of on-the-job training. The hours of the training will be based on your schedule or will be discussed on your first day of employment.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Schedules, prepares and facilitates introductory sessions for candidates in bariatric surgery program. Provides patients with an introduction to program, explains process and acts as patient liaison throughout the process.
- Coordinates pre-operative care of patients in the bariatric surgery program up to the patient scheduled surgery date. Responsible for booking appointments and classes and conducting weight checks. Conducts anthropometric measurements for all patients in the bariatric program. Completes documentation of vitals in electronic medical record and creates and/or updates patient flow sheets. Instructs patients on self-monitoring of blood glucose. Completes competencies annually.
- Serves as bariatric patient liaison communicating with patients regarding their status in the program, answering patient questions and concerns related to the program. Updates information for insurance approval as required. Resolves discrepancies within position responsibilities.
- Coordinates with surgical director, bariatric care manager and others to ensure patients have had appropriate screenings for surgical consult. Prepares for and attends bariatric team meetings for patient approval. Communicates with surgical director regarding pending medical issues. Forwards approved patient names to surgical director. Follow up on discrepancies within position responsibility as required or directed.
- Collaborates with the bariatric care manager and others to provide a smooth patient transition from pre-op to post-op status. Ensures the appropriate medical documentation is in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and appropriate patient databases.
- Serves as a liaison for the organization and the hospital by communicating with Inpatient Bariatric Coordinator, surgeons. staff members and others. Participates in bi-monthly process improvement meetings. Maintains databases monitoring bariatric patients’ status ensuring information is accurate and updated. Enters new patients into the database, takes inactive patients out of active patient database, moves pre-op patients to approve and then post-op lists and maintains non-surgical database. Monitors approved patients for surgery by monitoring and tracking patient database as required. Contacts patients to schedule appointments as required.
- Assists in developing and implementing policies, procedures, marketing materials as needed for program. Partners with appropriate team members and others as required or directed.
- Attends teams meetings as required or directed. Prepares patient list for discussion. Provides feedback on the assigned tasks.
- Assists and supports Manager and others with departmental needs/requests or concerns.
- Assists Manager or others in responding to patient concerns as needed. Monitors and addresses patient complaints within position responsibility. Ensures the highest level of patient satisfaction. Works with physicians, staff and others to address and prevent problems.
- Oversees purchases for department supplies.
- Manages and directs department volunteers and design work experience as required by departments.
- Processes check requests, mileage, expense forms, etc. following standard procedures.
- Processes payroll for assigned staff following standard procedures. Ensures time off and adjustments to time are accurately recorded in the payroll system. Resolve discrepancies as required.
- Achieves and retains super-user status on current system software to best manage provider’s appointment schedules. Creates and maintains Provider Schedules for all providers following standard protocol and following provider contractual obligations as required.
- Provides training and support to all members of the site/department on the procedures and current software as required or directed.
- Complies with health and safety requirements and with regulatory agencies such as DPH, etc.
- Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
- Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, seminars, etc.
- Attends a variety of meetings, conferences, and seminars as required or directed.
- Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
- Regular, reliable and predicable attendance is required.

Required Qualifications:
- HS Diploma / GED
- 18 years or older
- 3+ years of experience working in a clinical setting.
- Knowledge of Microsoft applications including Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Clerical or administrative support background or experience working in a call center environment

- Reside within 50 miles of Worcester, MA
- Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
- Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy.
- Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service.

The hourly range for this role is $19.86 to $38.85 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
