Role Description:
Reporting to the VP, Domestic Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, this position is a key part of the UnitedHealth Group EOHS leadership team. In collaboration with UnitedHealth Group, UnitedHealthcare, and Optum senior leaders, this position will develop and enable adoption of the systems, programs, and solutions necessary to deliver upon UnitedHealth Group’s Enterprise EOHS vision and strategy. In addition to leading a team of experts, this role is an engaged partner to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while creating key regulatory and industry partnerships.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop, communicate, and champion a comprehensive OHS strategy
- Leverage data, technology, and partnerships with internal leadership to achieve commitment and operationalization of the OHS strategy
- Lead, coach, and mentor a team of OHS experts into a high performing organization
- Maintain thorough understanding of health and safety regulations/requirements and be recognized as a technical expert in this area. Stay abreast of changes to, or potentially new health and safety regulations
- Strive to eliminate duplicative efforts in managing the health and safety strategy and seek solutions which increase efficiency and effectiveness
- Partner with UnitedHealth Group companies to address regulatory agency engagements
- Leverage evidence-based medical services, compliance, regulatory requirements, quality assurance and clinical best practices to achieve health and safety excellence
- Ensure accurate interpretation of clinical literature and impact on OHS strategy
- Take an active role in Management System maintenance, assessment, and continuous improvement
- Provide subject matter expertise and define Enterprise Health and Safety requirements for applicable topics (i.e. Infection Control, Industrial Hygiene, Emergency Preparedness, etc.)
- Communicate OHS risks and exposures to senior leaders and partner with them on continuous improvement plans
- Utilize key performance indicators and data analysis to achieve OHS objectives
- Manage to departmental budget
- Collaborate with the UnitedHealth Group Employee Benefits teams to assist with development and enhancement of employee health and wellness programs
- Collaborate with UnitedHealth Group Medical Affairs team to align, as appropriate, OHS vision and strategy with the Quality and Patient Safety strategy and initiatives
- Other duties, as assigned

Required Qualifications:
- 12+ years of Occupational Health & Safety experience
- 5 + years successfully leading teams responsible for end-to-end (strategy, design, development, implementation, and improvement) OHS programs and systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience engaging with DOT, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory agencies
- Proven experience developing experienced, strategic, high performing teams
- Demonstrated executive presence and experience engaging with executive level leaders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to travel, as required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the healthcare or insurance industry
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience engaging with DOT, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory agencies
- Advanced health and safety or related certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Proven experience managing organizational growth and change

The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
