This Sr. Accountant role is key to continued growth and success of Optum Health’s Financial Data Management team within the Accounting & Data Solutions function. Core responsibilities will be to work on internal data systems and accounting development tools, as well as utilize accounting and systems knowledge to assist in solutioning and implementing process improvement initiatives, automated report generation, internal controls creation, and data validation work. This role will have the knowledge and skills to turn data into information and insight for the finance and accounting organization; to seek out, develop, and help implement strategic initiatives for improved efficiency and productivity within the accounting close process. They will assist in finding the root causes of business challenges, identify opportunities for consistency and automation, and contribute to making recommendations on how to achieve accounting goals. This role will work cross-functionally with stakeholders across the organization to understand business requirements and interface with development teams to ensure requirements are understood and executed upon.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Create in, and interface with, a wide range of general and specialized applications including accounting tools and databases utilizing SQL and/or SAS
- Use effective data analytics skills to identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns to maximize effectiveness and troubleshoot problems on intermediate to complex accounting data sets
- Facilitate and coordinate the process of gathering, defining, and documenting requirements from the accounting and finance teams, assist on the creation of system design documentation, and work with development team to implement requirements
- Conduct and document current state and future state analysis using flowcharting tools
- Manage processes that support and maintain accounting systems and month-end work efforts
- Respond to issues encountered by accounting teams through their month end process, recommend and communicate corrective actions or changes, and coordinate or assist in issue resolution
- Create documentation that allows stakeholders to understand the steps of the data analysis process, such that they can duplicate or replicate the analysis if necessary

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (Finance, Accounting, Computer Science or Data Analytics)
- 2+ years of Business Analysis, Accounting, and/or Finance experience (Data analytics experience will be considered)
- Basic understanding of accounting controls, processes, and procedures
- Basic to intermediate proficiency in SQL
- Advanced analytic, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Proven exceptional communication skills to engage various audiences across the organization
- Proven ability to work independently and self-directed in a changing environment
Preferred Qualification:
- Healthcare experience
- Other coding or software experience: Databricks, Python, SAS
- Experience with financial systems infrastructure, system implementation and on-going support
- Knowledge of Accounting applications (SmartView, PeopleSoft, etc.
- Solid understanding of proper requirements specification and development, such as process/functional requirements definition methods, use case development, process flow diagrams, user acceptance testing, etc.
The salary range for this role is $59,500 to $116,600 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
