The Business Development Director for Optum Advisory Provider Technology / EHR Services is responsible for planning and coordinating the business development activities necessary to drive the continued commercial growth of our practice. This individual will be involved in designing a go-to-market strategy, evolving the value proposition of the practice’s services, defining and driving a market engagement plan, and overseeing business development activities for the practice and sub practices.  

 

At Optum, Directors are responsible for leading business development efforts, solutioning Optum’s offerings to meet a prospect’s requirements, and ongoing management of VP- and C-suite client relationships with health system executives; as such, this individual will have an annual sales target as well as an annual target for overall managed revenue and/or utilization.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with Optum’s broader consulting and sales leadership on articulating the value proposition of the multiple offerings within EHR Services 
  • Develop and lead a market communication and engagement plan that aligns to Optum’s regional market structure and optimizes internal channel partners to drive commercial growth 
  • Develop KPIs to measure our business development efficacy throughout the business development life-cycle (e.g., CIO awareness, number of touch points, leads generation) 
  • Collaborate with Optum’s Marketing team to refine the value proposition and ensure EHR Services is represented in sales collateral 
  • Oversee the management of the commercial pipeline for the practice and provide regular updates to executive leadership; monitor our practice’s discipline in using our practice’s tools and processes 
  • Plan and coordinate our collaboration with the Advisory Board as a go-to-market partner 
  • Coordinate the representation of our practice at industry events, webinars, and other forums  
  • Evangelize Optum’s EHR Services with internal stakeholders 
  • Develop the infrastructure to provide support and training to our consulting teammates on business development skills 
  • Coordinate the creation of content (e.g., eminence content, white papers, point of views, pitch decks, executive summaries, etc.) that can be used in business development communications and consulting meetings 
  • Maintain visibility into the market dynamic – market demand trends, competitive dynamic

Required Qualifications: 

  • 8+ years of consulting experience including 5+ years in healthcare consulting 
  • 3+ years of experience leading professional services business development efforts 
  • Knowledge of the provider technology and advisory services landscape  
  • Familiarity with leading provider technology vendors’ core capabilities 
  • Proven exceptional communication and presentation skills 
  • Demonstrated success in prior business development roles 
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to travel up to 30% domestically 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a successful influencer who can interact effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders 
  • Experienced negotiator 
  • Highly proficient in Power Point and Excel 
  • Demonstrated ability to coach others to perform and achieve results

The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
