FADS (Fraud and Abuse Detection System) is a suite of complementary, web-based components that mine provider, member and claims data for potential fraud, waste, and abuse; provide software research tools; and track subsequent investigation activity.  The FADS team is comprised of individuals with a variety of technical expertise from database, business intelligence reporting, and web-based tools.  

 

The FADS team is creating a hybrid position to combine data analytics with data science to improve productivity with innovation to support a comprehensive approach in the identification of fraud, waste, and abuse detection. This position should have the ability to collaborate with multiple roles including fellow business analyst, data engineers, software engineers and report developers. This individual will be involved in many phases of an implementation project and/or an operational project and become familiar with the database structures, testing software, documentation procedure and training and User Manual formats.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interact with business stakeholders to understand their AI/ML requirements and deliver projects aligned with the business portfolio 
  • Develop, implement, and test predictive models to analyze medical claims data, identify patterns, and provide data-driven insights for strategic decision-making
  • Analyze data sets to identify anomalies, outliers, trend shifts and opportunities, utilizing statistical tools and techniques to assess the significance and relevance
  • Plan, document, evaluate and track testing results to ensure system applications are free from defects 
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including analytic engineering, infrastructure, and operations, to identify and address key business challenges through data science 
  • Document and communicate findings, methodologies, and insights to technical and non-technical stakeholder  
  • Write clear, concise, and extensive user documentation using advanced features of MS Word
  • Work independently, take initiative, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Use advanced features of MS Excel such standard deviation, formulas, and other functions
  • Actively participate in walk-through, inspection, and peer reviews for quality assurance
  • Share knowledge (train) other team members and business users on any of the skills listed above

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in Data Science 
  • 2+ years of experience in delivering production-grade AI/ML projects 
  • 2+ years of programming skills in Python, SQL, mathematical and statistical concepts 
  • Experience with Big Data and similar technologies 
  • Experience with cloud platforms Azure, Google Cloud and AWS for large scale heath data processing
  • Demonstrated familiarity with supervised and unsupervised machine learning models including Regression, Forecasting, NLP, Decision and Search Algorithms
  • Proven knowledge of visualization techniques for data analysis and presentation using Power BI, Excel, Matplotlib and Seaborn
  • Experience in AI model deployment methods using Docker, Kubernetes, and AI services on cloud platform
  • Demonstrated understanding of bias/fairness testing and responsible use of AI/ML
  • Experience with healthcare claim data

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven knowledge of the full life cycle of AI/ML projects, including EDA, model development, tuning, and drift analysis 
  • Proven solid communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams 
  • Proven organizational skills with ability to be flexible and work with ambiguity

The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
