Performs Quality Audits focused on medical coding principles and guidelines, as well as operational performance and processes as needed. Extract precise information from documentation, test results, and reports to audit and ensure appropriate codes were assigned. Audit and test ongoing operational processes to assure continued compliance with all requirements regarding coding procedures, practices and internal processing guidelines.

This position is full-time, Monday – Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, with flexibility during peak season training. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.

We offer 6 weeks of paid training during normal business hours.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides coding guidance on production charts to coders/auditors following CMS guidelines and ICD-10 coding guidelines.
  • Provides coaching monthly for sub95% coders and auditors through small group sessions and individual coaching depending on the level of errors. 
  • Assist in creation of bi-weekly CMA or learning sessions dependent upon the client. 
  • Provides coaching support for any training event.
  • One coach assigned to each new hire class. Coach may be responsible for leading reviews weeks
  • One or two coaches assigned for client training events that are not New Hire 
  • Conducts training/review sessions when the Trainer is absent.
  • Attends monthly Trainer / Coach collaboration events dependent upon program.
  • Assists with client audits as needed. 
  • Assists with review of training material, CEUs, and any other new resources.
  • Assists with identifying trends seen with production questions by sharing concerns with the dedicated trainer. 
  • Adheres to guidelines and quality (completeness and accuracy)
  • Identifies trends in coding and issues in documentation that affect coding accuracy
  • Provides input and valuable feedback on audit results
  • Recommends process improvement
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Coding certification (CPC, COC, CIC, CCA, CRC, CCS, RHIT OR RHIA) 
  • Must be 18 years of age OR older 
  • 2+ years ICD-10 coding experience  
  • Knowledge in HCC coding guidelines
  • Technical expertise in ICD-10-CM
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook
  • Ability to work during our normal business hours of 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, with flexibility during peak season training from Monday – Friday

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Outpatient Coding experience
  • Physician’s office / hospital experience 

 

Telecommuting Requirements: 

  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable) 
  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy 
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service

The hourly range for this role is $28.61 to $56.06 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
