Primary Responsibilities:
Data Scientist Senior Consultant in this role will lead the development and implementation of predictive models and data science solutions focused on health disparities, health equity related initiatives, and social determinants of health risk models. Responsibilities include:
- Applying data transformations to support actuarial and predictive modeling within the Medicare, Medicaid, and/or Commercial lines of business
- Leading the design and development of data science solutions tailored to client needs
- Leading the development of advanced machine learning classification and regression algorithms
- Developing and implementing model monitoring processes to ensure the accuracy and reliability of predictive models
- Applying technical skills to perform complex analyses and draw key insights that reflect an understanding of the overall consulting engagement. Emphasis and knowledge base in health equity, public health and value-based care and alternative payment models type projects
- Creating visually appealing, client-ready, and accurate deliverables
- Lead client facing conversations and presentations
- Analyze different data sources to determine analytic value and make recommendations on feature engineering
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with broader team, while supporting ad-hoc analytics
- Maintain high quality documentation of predictive models, data definitions, transformations, and processes to ensure data science governance and security
- Take accountability for work within a fast-paced consulting environment and manage multiple projects at once

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3+ years of direct healthcare industry experience in at least 2 of the following domains:
- Population health analytics
- Value based care analytics
- Actuarial analysis
- Health equity and/or health disparity analytics
- 2+ year experience working in a consultancy, healthcare payer, or research institution in a data science role
- 2+ years in R, Python, and SQL
- Experience leading feature engineering
- Experience leading the design and development of predictive models
- 1+ year experience with Cloud environment like Azure
- Expertise in various business deployments with at least 2 of the following methodologies:
- Regression
- Classification
- NLP
- GenAI
- Deep Learning
- 1+ year experience in a client facing role; leading presentation development and client interactions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience at Optum/UHC/UHG
- Experience with health care claims and/or pharmacy claims (i.e. understanding of costs, expected claims, diagnosis codes, procedure codes, pharmacy terminology, etc.) and/or experience with UHG and/or Optum data and analytical products
- Proven analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to handle changing priorities/requirements/deadlines

The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
