The Consultant Development Program (CDP) is an Early Careers program for recent college graduates who are interested in developing and deploying client-facing, problem-solving and presentation skills with health care clients. The Consultant Development Program sits within Optum Advisory and allows for early career professionals to experience a diversity of health care clients through a variety of engagements. CDP participants will work with Advisory Board teams across a variety of functions including research and client services to support top business priorities, while simultaneously receiving mentorship and formal training in key consulting competencies. Program completion includes alignment into a full-time Advisory Board role or Optum Advisory practice and typically takes 1.5-2.5 years to complete.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Working directly with our internal and external clients to help determine needs and solve complex business problems by performing the following types of activities:
    • Enable strategic business transformation through the application of Advisory Board research and insights to help our client’s address their most complex problems 
    • Conduct research & stakeholder interviews that may include collecting, analyzing, trending and presenting data and recommendations to clients
    • Navigate client facing interactions, presentations and relationship building in scenarios of project delivery, social situations, research, and at times ambiguity
    • Promote project success with presentation creation and project management duties, including meeting management, project planning, and delivery
    • Partner with internal and external stakeholders by using clear, concise and effective written and oral communication
    • Grow in specific areas of interest and develop subject matter expertise 
    • Develop and support in the delivery of client facing presentations 
    • Provide support and information to clients making strategic decisions and implementing enhancements to their organizations’ strategy, productivity, performance, and long-term profitability
    • Support the success of Advisory Board’s key products including expert support, syndicated research, custom research, and sponsorship
  • Advisory Board provides support to a wide range of health care clients. Some example projects might include:
    • Conducting custom research projects on a variety of topics ranging from workforce assessments to consumer market insights to support our members across provider, life sciences, payer, and other healthcare organizations. Custom research includes qualitative and quantitative research inputs and close internal collaboration to distill key findings and insights to meet our client’s needs
    • Supporting long-term research cycles across key topic areas such as value-based care, service line trends, and digital health. Across these research cycles analysts will have the opportunity to build deep topic expertise, conduct interviews, and create written deliverables and collateral for events
    • Designing content for Advisory Board’s website across a variety of deliverable types including written and graphical elements. Sample content types include expert insight articles, market trend reports, sponsored deliverables, and cheat sheets
    • Engaging directly with Advisory Board members (clients) to provide expert support, answer their questions, and demonstrate the value of Advisory Board research to meet their strategic goals and priorities

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree earned within the past 24 months from an accredited college/university; coursework to obtain degree must be completed prior to start of employment and verified within 6-8 weeks following the date at your school
  • Business Acumen and Basic Data Analysis experience
  • Ability to work in office on a hybrid schedule (2 days home/3 days in office) in one of our 3 locations (Eden Prairie, MN, Nashville, TN or Washington, DC) for the duration of the program
  • Ability to Travel up to  25% for the Consultant Development Program, dependent on project needs and location 
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization (F-1 students with practical training and candidates requiring H-1Bs, TNs, etc. will not be considered) F-1 visa holders with Optional Practical Training (OPT) who will require H-1B status, TNs, or current H-1B visa holders will not be considered. H1-B and green card sponsorship is not available for this position

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Healthcare experience 
  • Proven intellectual Curiosity

The salary range for this role is $59,500 to $116,600 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
