As Optum Ireland CIO, you will be accountable for driving technology strategy & execution through a 500+ person technology team (across multiple business groups). As a direct report to the Optum Ireland CEO, you will serve as a key member of the Ireland leadership team. Additionally, you will be part of the Optum Technology extended leadership team (with dotted line reporting through Optum Technology leadership). As Ireland CIO, your scope will encompass technology strategy, talent, financial execution, cloud strategy/penetration, cybersecurity, and cross-enterprise business initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of the overall Optum Ireland strategy (specifically how the technology function through IP and delivery contributes to enterprise growth)
  • Partner with existing and new business groups on technology requirements (both current and future), ensuring they are prepared for change, risk, and scaling
  • Provide leadership, direction & coordination necessary to support the mission and operations of the organization
  • Develop/enhance and implement a comprehensive technology strategy aligned with business goals and long-term vision
  • Direct accountability for leading software development teams focused on delivering internal and commercial software solutions
  • Ensure the security, availability, and reliability of technology platforms/solutions
  • Engage regularly with business group CIOs to discuss Ireland’s role – tactically in terms of existing teams & delivery and strategically in exploring IP, co-location, and growth opportunities
  • Lead the in-country agenda and ensure hiring and delivery balance (addressing delivery gaps as needed)
  • Build & sustain a collaborative Technology community across multiple locations and teams
  • Monitor all Technology results to develop and implement annual response plans
  • Drive policy & external engagement (together with External Affairs) on various areas, including any incoming legislation & participation in appropriate local industry bodies

Required Qualifications:

  • History of cultivating effective working relationships with executives to drive business agendas using technology
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders at senior levels
  • Proven collaboration, influencing & problem-solving skills (including keen attention to detail in a performance environment)
  • Strategic thinking abilities and an enterprise-wide perspective
  • Experience developing and executing technology strategies to enable business goals
  • Track record of success building reliable & scalable technology solutions
  • Demonstrated experiences across the entire SDLC, from ideation through launch (including financial components)
  • Direct experience with real-world AI use cases and a point of view re: how to responsibly use GenAI for business advantage
  • Experience leading a Technology team of 100+ people (through other leaders) in a large, multi-national company
  • Leadership style which fosters accountability, transparent communication & innovation
  • History of developing future leaders through coaching, mentoring & succession planning
  • Demonstrated high level of emotional intelligence
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration) or equivalent experience
