As Senior Manager of Data Analytics in the Quality Performance Analytics team in Optum, you will be working with data that contributes to clinical quality gap closures, and the improvement of Medicare Stars & HEDIS measures. Responsibilities include reporting and analysis, data validations, consulting between internal and external teams, proactively identifying performance improvement opportunities, and being a subject matter expert on all things Quality Measures and Star Ratings through the use of data analytics, technology, reference material, following specifications, and providing operational support.
This role will be responsible for continued scaling of self-service reporting and data analytics functions. This role reports directly to the Director of Analytics for Optum Clinical Performance. The incumbent must have strong background in data and analytics, along with an understanding of the software development process including UAT and QA. Along with leading the development team, the incumbent must work with BA’s, internal customers, and senior leaders to accomplish the goals of the department. The incumbent will be responsible for all team output as it relates, but not limited to dashboard creation, ad hoc support, and other tasks as assigned. Lastly, the incumbent will be responsible for turnover, new hires, and performance management.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Sets team direction, resolves problems, and provides guidance to members of own team
- Ensure all critical reports are accurate, regularly scheduled, and shared with the right individuals according to an agreed upon reporting calendar and schedule
- Ensures that team members follow and adhere to existing processes and meet QA expectations
- Develops end-to-end dashboards, data visualizations to support the business with critical decision needs
- Creates patient outreach lists and other work products as defined by leadership
- Develops and define technical standards for the team
- Produce innovative solutions with sophisticated techniques and intuitive visualization that creatively address critical issues in HEDIS and Star measure data
- Mentors and coaches staff
- Advocate for the team and present deliverables to executive leaders
- Build relationships with other departments and serve as a SME and source of influence
- Use technical skills to manipulate data using SQL, Snowflake, Power BI, Tableau, Excel, or other tools to provide actionable information to internal customers in support of their business goals by business & product line
- Help build reporting and data visualizations to create data driven analytics that drive strategies and measure interventions to ensure our populations to achieve 4+ Star goals
- Recommends and implements new or modified reporting methods and procedures to improve report content and completeness of information. Assists in testing new reports and ongoing support of existing solutions, including defect identification and resolution
- Ensure completion of yearly projects in support of team specific roadmap items that support business goals
- Build best practice data quality monitoring to ensure all data/report products exceed customer expectations. Incorporate quality into the planning/design phases; build quality assurance activities; utilize data audits; identify and fix root causes vs short term solutions
- Design and review data structures for data management purposes with team
- Support team members by leading projects, sharing ideas and reviewing work of others. Work with internal business partners to interpret, develop, & document report specifications, provide data-driven direction & guidance for Stars and clinical quality improvement
- Anticipate end user data needs, be curious and proactively communicate ideas to stakeholders
- Utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Pro-actively identifies patterns in issues and research root-cause to improve overall quality

Required Qualifications:
- 4+ years of experience working with healthcare data and reporting, especially focused on STARs/HEDIS
- 4+ years of technical reporting experience (SQL, SSIS, Tableau, and other BI tools)
- 2+ years of manager and/or team lead experience
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work on multiple workstreams in parallel
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience working across teams and proven track record in solution focused problem-solving skills
- Experience using large, diverse healthcare data for analytic purposes
- Experience working with healthcare data to support end user data requirements
- Experience with Alteryx
- Comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment where documentation for job execution isn’t yet fully flushed out
- Highly analytical, curious and creative
- Knowledge of and experience using Stars / HEDIS data
- Ability to mentor and support team members
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Understands and can learn Star Ratings, PQA, HEDIS, CMS & NCQA technical specifications to apply to measure criteria
- Comfortable working in a rapidly-changing environment

The salary range for this role is $106,800 to $194,200 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
