The Cash Posting Specialist is responsible for processing payments and adjustments on patient accounts, compiling and balancing cash deposits for the bank, and assisting internal staff with payment issues for the Cash Management section of the Single Business Office of John Muir Health. The Cash Posting Specialist must be located in Concord, CA or surrounding cities, as training will be onsite and travel to the office will be approximately one day per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Process and post payments into the patient accounting system to update patient account balances
  • Post payments and adjustments based on the payer remittance advice, including ANSI standard remark codes
  • Reconcile and balance all payment posting, daily cash reconciliation, and end-of-day deposit composition, legacy and current systems
  • Research and post payments and adjustments initially identified with incorrect or inappropriate account numbers and placed into the unidentified cash account
  • Enter appropriate documentation of all payment information, including secondary payer balances, co-pays and deductibles, contractual adjustments, denials, and suspended payments, transferring account balances when appropriate
  • Consistently meet the current productivity standards for payment processing
  • Resolve missing payments and clearing entries in a timely manner
  • Provide individual contribution to the overall team effort of achieving the department AR goal
  • Identify opportunities for system and process improvement and submit to management
  • Demonstrate knowledge of John Muir Health System HIPAA privacy standards and ensure compliance with system PHI privacy practices
  • Follow the Health System’s general Policy and Procedures, the Department’s Policy and Procedures, and the Emergency Preparedness Procedures
  • Complies with all HIPAA and JCAHO standards as well as the rules and regulations for any outside government regulatory agency, including the processing of appropriate forms and paperwork

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED  
  • 2+ years of accounts receivable cash posting experience
  • 1+ years of experience with 10-Key touch
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point, Word and Outlook)
  • Must reside within a commutable distance of Concord, CA

The hourly range for this role is $16.88 to $33.22 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
