The Vice President, Network Programs, will have responsibility for managing, strategizing, and negotiating National and Regional Facility, Ancillary and Physician Agreements on behalf of Optum Health Networks. It is expected that the spend of these national agreements will contribute meaningfully to the affordability outcomes for Optum Health Networks. This role will work closely with the leaders of every market in Optum Health relative to a negotiation strategy and prioritization of the agreements each year. The outcomes of this work will directly impact the network strategy of every market as well as the affordability outcomes of each market. This role will negotiate contracts in compliance with  Optum Health Network contracting templates, rate structure and methodology, and other key operating principles foundational to our organization.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Execute on the national agreement strategy for Optum Health Networks
  • Maintain an inventory of all national agreements that exist today and those that should exist for the future
  • Have a keen understanding of competitors and competitor positions on negotiation strategy for large negotiations
  • Directly negotiate  national agreements on behalf of OHN and the markets
  • Adhere to Unit Cost Controls and broader medical cost management for both Government and Commercial business
  • Contribute to the development of our Payment Appendix strategy for all lines of business for all contract types that promote the success of value-based risk agreements
  • Contribute to the development of our Incentive Appendix strategy for all lines of business for all contract types that promote the success of value-based risk agreements
  • Establish meaningful leadership partnerships with the markets to develop and execute the negotiation game plans that best position all markets for success
  • Interact closely with Optum Health Clinical Performance, Health Care Economics, Optum Health Operations, Optum Health Finance, and Optum Health Senior Staff to achieve agreement on approach and negotiation outcomes for all deals
  • Provide leadership to inspire teams, motivate teams for engagement, productivity, values, and performance
  • Drive improved NPS in partnership with the NPS team
  • Drive consensus and clarity around vision, value, and strategy

Required Qualifications: 

  • 10+ years of progressively more responsible health care administration experience
  • 10+ years of demonstrated large scale network contracting experience success
  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership role
  • Advanced and demonstrated strategic thinking and planning expertise
  • Relationship building experience, including experience developing relationships at an Executive Leadership within Optum Health
  • Demonstrated broad-scope financial expertise
  • Experience building business cases for initiatives and developing the right conclusions to support the development of national contract strategies
  • Experience building relationships cross-functionally and leading toward common goals
  • Solid communicator evidence by capable of effectively presenting ideas and selling concepts and tactics; excellent writer; proven ability to communicate effectively with executive-levels; ability to quickly understand needs and act on those needs; ability to conceptualize and effectuate change management and “out-of-the-box” thinking
     

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 5+ years of capitation/risk network contracting experience
  • Managed care experience

The salary range for this role is $150,200 to $288,500 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
