In joining our Data & Research Analytics (DARA) team, a core function of the Optum Advisory Trend Analytics department, you will leverage your expertise in healthcare data analysis, quality assurance, workflow optimization, financial analysis, and custom data enrichment. You’ll be part of a team that is a leader in health care cost analytics, with a proven track record of supporting health plans though a diverse staff of Data/Research Analysts, Business/Technology Consultants, and Actuaries.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end data analysis projects: requirements gathering, design, development, testing, implementation, support, and ongoing enhancement
  • Understand healthcare analytics requirements and translate into functional specifications
  • Collaborate with data engineers and DBAs on technical design
  • Lead processes that analyze large, complex healthcare data sets
  • Analyze medical & pharmacy claims and eligibility data from multiple source systems
  • Ensure each of our data assets meet expectations
  • Investigate data quality anomalies and define solutions
  • Create clear, user-friendly documentation
  • Drive resolution of data quality issues and mentor analysts through the process
  • Lead cross-functional project management and due diligence
  • Act as project lead, SME, and potential people manager in partnership with engineering leads
  • Escalate issues appropriately and proactively
  • Participate in business planning and leadership meetings
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects effectively
  • Foster collaboration and diverse perspectives to achieve shared goals

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of healthcare industry experience
  • 10+ years of experience analyzing eligibility and medical/Rx claims data (including within the last 2 years)
  • 5+ years of experience gathering business requirements and writing specifications
  • 5+ years of SQL experience using commands such as GROUP BY, SUM, JOIN, WHERE (including within the last 2 years)
  • 3+ years of experience as a project lead
  • 3+ years of exp in a people manager role
  • 3+ years of experience with at least one of the following: SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, Teradata, Snowflake, Databricks
  • Experience collaborating with VP-level and above
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas like SUM, VLOOKUP, CONCATENATE)
  • Proven solid facilitation, presentation, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated sound judgment in escalating issues and risks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on generative AI experience
  • Experience analyzing UHG eligibility and claims data (from CIRRUS, UNET, etc.) from core UHG data assets (UDW, Stratus, etc.)
  • Experience driving innovation or product development initiatives
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 productivity tools

The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
