The Cardiac Sonographer performs a range of routine to more complex ultrasound procedures on patients based on physician orders including but not limited to: Echocardiogram, Cardiac stress tests etc; maintains records; provides general support to ultrasound operations; and executes duties with technical competency.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Performs non-invasive studies which includes explanation of procedures to be done and providing physician with necessary information to interpret test results and medical information
  • Greets and admits patients to Lab.  Takes detailed medical history and performs physical examination of cerebrovascular system with proper documentation.  Ensures confidentiality of patient information
  • Assists in processing charges for non-invasive patients
  • Maintains and orders Cardiovascular Lab supplies which includes keeping equipment properly functioning and adequate.  Submits charges in a timely manner
  • Along with staff and physician, notifies patient or referring physician of test results with proper documentation and references
  • Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls.  Instructs patient and family as warranted by standards of practice and department
  • Initiates and provides necessary follow-up care
  • Communicates efficiently both intra and interdepartmentally
  • Attends required meetings and participates in professional development

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience
  • Graduation from an AMA approved school of Echocardiography
  • Current registration through ARDMS or CCI
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers (AHA) or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (American Red Cross)
  • 1+ years of experience as a staff cardiac sonographer, performing a variety of procedures  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Postgraduate training and experience in resting echocardiography, treadmill and pharmacological stress echocardiography
  • Bilingual – Spanish

The hourly range for this role is $28.61 to $56.06 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
