The UMR Sr. Strategic Account Executive position is responsible for the development and maintenance of business relationships with assigned customers, while operating in a consultative capacity to ensure customer satisfaction, retention, contract renewal, revenue maintenance, and adding additional lines of business. The responsibility of this role is to provide consultative input in the design of a customer’s benefit plan(s) and health and welfare strategy through the relationships established with customers and brokers.
If you are located in Richardson, you will have the flexibility to work remotely*, as well as work in the office as you take on some tough challenges.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Customer retention, based on established annual goals
- Strategic planning for multi-year initiatives to identify opportunities to better manage healthcare trends
- Responsible for communicating and managing escalated issues and problem resolution as appropriate
- Maintains appropriate documentation including action plans, meeting notes, CRIP log, Strategic Customer Business Plans, ATLAS and others as required
- Coordinates plan design review and strategies with other UMR departments, provides financial analysis, and recommends modifications to existing benefit plan(s) to enhance or streamline coverage to meet the customer’s needs or industry trends or to increase customer’s auto adjudication rates
- Serves as an information resource to customers, brokers, sales support, marketing, and management regarding sales activity, industry news and standards, as well as ongoing operations
- Provides continual education and consultation to the customer and broker through proactive contacts based on established annual goals to meet with customers, follow-up on outstanding issues, and ASA and Stop Loss contract negotiations
- Actively seeks out opportunities to recommend or modify appropriate new products/services to increase lines of business including UHC specialty business lines, and bring solutions to customers based on needs identified
- Manages stewardship and is accountable for the renewal strategy and goals across all departments, including updates to the UHC Health Plan leadership, and the customer
- Identifies current and future customer and broker requirements by establishing rapport with potential and existing customers, brokers and other persons in a position to understand customer and broker requirements
- Directs internal units through coordination of efforts and resources necessary to ensure appropriate services are being delivered at an appropriate cost. Indirectly manages service deliverables across department lines to manage process and meet performance targets
- Participates in or represents account management in special projects
- Actively involved in new customer implementations
- Provides sales and marketing support through participation in finalist presentations
- Assists in training and mentoring new SAEs and other Account Management team members as needed
- Participates in Health and Benefit Fairs for assigned customers
- Support the Directors of Health Plans represented in their assigned book of business with current, timely and important updates, as needed
- Performs other duties as required

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
- State health insurance license upon hire and ability to obtain life insurance licenses within 3 months from position start date
- 5+ years of progressively more responsible sales and/or service experience
- Solid understanding of stop loss underwriting and pricing disciplines
- Proven excellent working ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Proven ability to professionally interact with customer, broker, and internal UMR contacts with little or no assistance, including C-Suite relationships.
- Proven solid financial acumen and negotiation skills
- Proven oral, written, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with individuals within all levels of the customer organization, broker firm, and internally within UMR
- Proven ability to handle complex situations, deliver renewals, increase lines of business on existing clients
- Proven ability to develops and maintains a high level of expertise in account service/consultative selling techniques, product knowledge, procedures, and administration
- Proven ability to be proactive, self-motivated, detail-oriented, creative and work with minimum supervision
- Proven ability to demonstrates an ongoing commitment to education, training, and development activities especially in the leadership area
- Proven ability to demonstrates effective time management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Proven ability to demonstrates superior interpersonal, communication, and group presentation skills
- Proven ability to analyze and think through issues thoroughly, identify alternative responses, and bring about an effective solution
- Proven ability to demonstrate high degree of customer focus and attention to service
- Proven ability to project a positive, team-oriented attitude towards customers, vendors, brokers, consultants and associates, both internally and externally
Preferred Qualification:
- CEBS certification
Job Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a normal office environment
- Ability and willingness to work irregular and unusual hours
- Must be able to travel regularly, including willingness for air travel
- Must maintain an excellent driving record

The salary range for this role is $60,000 to $130,000 annually based on full-time employment. Role is also eligible to receive bonuses based on sales performance. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
