UnitedHealth Group’s Enterprise Security & Resilience Office (ESRO) is looking for a dynamic leader to drive structure, oversight, and energy into our program and vendor management function. The PMO Director role blends strategy, risk and execution focus to help shape UHG’s overall security posture…from how it operates safely, to how it develops secure enterprise solutions.
The PMO Director will partner with ESRO’s senior leadership to drive forward strategic initiatives, create structured reporting pathways, and bring their deep project and vendor management experience to build a world-class PMO function. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with developing cross-functional partnerships, leading people, driving digital transformation, and understands the importance of ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations. Familiarity with cybersecurity, physical security, risk management, regulatory compliance, and/or the healthcare industry is desired but strong people leadership and a proven track record for continuous improvement is essential.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead a Program and Vendor Management function which focuses on physical and cybersecurity initiatives and ensure effective partnership with organizations across the enterprise to include the business, acquired entities, and our IT, risk management, and facilities organizations
- Develop standardized project and portfolio management processes in alignment with industry best practices to provide senior leadership with insight into program/project performance, metrics, and cost
- Partner with security leaders to plan and execute on major security initiatives, with a focus on driving strategic transformation for the security function and reducing risk for the enterprise
- Mentor security teams as they build effective implementation plans inclusive of metrics, project milestones, deliverables, and manage time and budget attached to each initiative
- Support security teams as they develop technology-based implementation plans and align technology purchases with organizational budget considerations, strategic priorities, and/or security capability gaps; assist acquired entities and security teams in transitioning to enterprise solutions and decommissioning duplicative technologies
- Develop an approach to developing and managing strategic vendor relationships and implement tracking mechanisms to ensure alignment with service level agreements and performance expectations
- Lead and develop a team of project managers and program leads, coaching them in delivery best practices and security awareness

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, technology, or security-related fields
- 10+ years of experience in project/program management
- 5+ years of people leadership experience and a proven track record of progression through roles with increasing responsibility
- Experience delivering transformational technology and/or security projects within highly matrixed organizations
- Experience managing vendors and creating partnerships to effectively execute on strategic projects and programs
- Experience working in physical security, cybersecurity, risk management, regulatory compliance, and/or healthcare.
- Experience managing budgets for immediate teams and projects ranging from $1M-$10M
- Proven solid critical thinking, written and verbal communication, decision-making, and tactical execution skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- PMP or PgMP certification
- ITIL or healthcare service management certification
- Experience with Agile/SAFe and/or DevSecOps

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $132,200 to $226,600 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
