Under supervision, the Safety Specialist plans, organizes, develops, and supports the employee occupational health and safety injury-loss prevention programs as part of the Employee Health and Safety team. The work of the Safety Specialist is to stimulate engagement in the programs by partnering with CDO leadership to meet regulatory and enterprise adherence requirements. The Safety Specialist works alongside the Employee Health Safety RN by evaluating and assessing health and safety procedures to minimize risk of disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents, or ergonomic factors. The Safety Specialist has considerable contact with employees, clinicians, leadership, community partners, government agencies, and the public to promote environmental health and safety protection for employees.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with the Employee Health Safety RN on employee safety programs, including employee infection control and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)/Department of Occupation Safety and Health (DOSH)
  • Assists in the development and administration of health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines
  • In coordination with appropriate partners, the Safety Specialist will work with the County/State entities to ensure safe operations throughout the CDO while maintaining appropriate PPE guidance
  • Works alongside the Purchasing department to ensure proper equipment is purchased to promote safe workstations and working environments to mitigate risk of injury and/or illness
  • Investigates employee concerns and reported events/incidents related to workplace accidents/injuries that pertain to facilities/environment and employee safety/security to determine cause and collaborates with Employee Health Safety RN, Human Resources, Clinical Risk Management, and Corporate Security investigations, as needed, to solve safety issues
  • Monitors and analyzes illness and injury data and work operations to assist in the development of preventative safety procedures and recommend solutions. Coordinates practices, procedures, and facility needs to assess risk and adherence to the regulatory requirements
  • Prepares reports including observations, analysis of contaminants and recommendation for control and correction of hazards
  • Participates in new-hire orientation and supports the Employee Health Safety RN with annual trainings, as assigned, for various topics that may include blood-borne pathogens, PPE, hazard communication, and TB exposure control
  • Collaborates on the development and implementation of safety training programs, as assigned, to prevent, correct or control unsafe environmental conditions and to promote safe and healthful work practices. The Safety Specialist will coordinate the training of teams for mandatory safety training such as locating trainer, arranging training sessions, and acquiring and maintaining training resources
  • Works alongside appropriate partners to develop and review safety policies, protocols, and guidelines to assist in staff and leadership trainings to ensure a culture of health and safety
  • Provides education, assessment and coordination with Employee Health Safety RN, Safety Committee members, and Clinical Risk Management for proactive ergonomic solutions prior to possible employee/visitor injury whenever possible
  • Administers procedures for evaluating ergonomic requests as defined in the Ergonomic Policy
  • Works alongside Employee Health Safety RN to support the Employee Safety Committee meetings by coordinating and facilitating meetings, administering trainings, and managing safety events. Participates with other appropriate committees as needed
  • Collaborates with operation leaders on quarterly safety inspections and work alongside the Employee Health Safety RN to correct or control unsafe conditions
  • Supports the Emergency Operations Plan by partnering with appropriate leaders to assist in the coordination of all regulatory requirements and development of trainings and exercises for Emergency Preparedness as mandated by Center of Medicare and Medicaid
  • Manages and coordinates trainings and/or education for the CDO emergency communication tools, which may include two-way radios and cellphone applications (TigerConnect)
  • Maintains appropriate PPE guidance and workplace safety during unforeseen events such as pandemic or natural disaster
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience in healthcare safety
  • Valid driver’s license

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Safety Certifications
  • Previous work within a clinical setting or safety field

 

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits re subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $23.41 to $41.83 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
