We are seeking a Data Analyst to join our growing team to support our evaluations of providers’ performance on cost, quality and patient experience.
In this position, you will play a key role in enabling the Surest benefit plan by supporting the ongoing improvement and communication of Surest’s provider performance evaluations. The Data Analyst – Provider Performance will support the optimization of some of Surest’s key differentiating assets around evaluating providers and setting distinct member copays while collaborating with other areas across the organization that leverage the provider performance evaluations. This work will include analyzing provider network data, claims data and outputs from the Surest provider performance evaluation pipeline. This position will develop materials that support Surest work with external entities such as demonstrating Surest capabilities for regulators as a part of Surest fully-insured expansion and supporting claims audits for self-insured ASO clients.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Respond to reporting and custom analytic requests from clients and other stakeholders by mining data using SQL, business intelligence tools, and claims databases
- Support the development of robust dashboard with summary-level statistics and support detailed “drill downs” into the performance of specific providers and services
- Collaborate with Data Science and Dev teams to analyze the impact of Surest provider performance approaches, and identify potential enhancements and optimizations
- Support and independently execute short and long-term analytic projects using quantitative approaches (e.g., descriptive statistics, statistical tests, regression) and tools (Excel, SQL, Python, or R)
- Assist with the preparation and delivery of clear and concise communications for various internal and external stakeholders
- Independently mine claims and digital data to clearly understand capabilities and limitations of the data for analyses
- Participate in technical documentation of analytics and results
- Support review of internal and external deliverables for accuracy (QA)
- Analyze the impact of provider performance approaches are having on plan results and member decisions

Required Qualifications:
- 2+ years of business or data analysis experience
- Intermediate level experience with Excel and developing financial modeling
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a highly dynamic environment, solid problem-solving skills, exceptional attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to translate analytic requests into data specifications based on data availability and limitations, developing data solutions to support analyses, and performing analysis
- Proven data query and analysis skills, including tools like R, Python, SQL, or other analysis and BI tools
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working healthcare administrative data (e.g. claims, enrollment, provider directory)
- Experience with SQL and relational database pipelines and tools (Databricks and Ascend)
- Experience with business intelligence tools (i.e. Looker, Tableau, Power BI)
- Experience developing business intelligence reporting to support strategy development
- Knowledge and experience in a healthcare environment with HIPAA requirements
- Understanding of health care industry concepts (encounters, episodes, members, cost of care, benefit administration, etc.)
- Working knowledge of clinical data domains and code sets (CPT, ICD, DRG, etc.)
- Working knowledge of provider directory data
- Proven unique balance of disciplined analytical thinking, creative passion, and a willingness to be hands-on
- Proven passion for data visualization that helps users have quick and actionable access to important information
- Proximity to San Francisco (CA), Minneapolis (MN) or New York City (NY)

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $71,200 to $127,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
