The VP of Payer Specialty Strategy of OptumRx will oversee and provide subject matter specialty pharmacy expertise to lead cross-functional teams dedicated to managing specialty pharmacy trend and quality initiatives.
The successful candidate will drive PBM initiatives related to client specialty trend management and develop programs that enable the growth strategy across multiple businesses. This leader will collaborate and influence multiple customers, stakeholders, vendors, providers, and acquisitions within the broader Optum and UHG organization.
This position will lead a team that creates specialty trend management best practices for payers, manages a team of case management pharmacists, defines quality standards expected within pharmacy networks, works with clinical and P&T to assure current medical standards are reflected within our policies, provides subject matter expertise to clinical and account management teams, prioritizes specialty pharmacy product development, and develops a comprehensive sales and marketing plan related to specialty products.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Understand broader specialty pharmacy industry trends and Optum’s capabilities to build best in class business strategy and specialty management solutions across medical and pharmacy benefits
- Develop, align and execute the overall Specialty Pharmacy strategy, tactical plans while collaborating with OptumRx, Optum Health and Optum Insights leadership to maximize the value of Optum’s variety of available solutions
- Manage a team of specialty pharmacy client facing and case management experts that includes pharmacists and other industry experts
- Oversee specialty drug list management and strategy
- Establish risk-based client contract strategy related to specialty pharmaceutical management
- Lead clinical experts within specific disease states to serve as SMEs with regards to both clinical practice and interventional programs
- Lead business development initiatives related to specialty products
- Work within the sales and account management teams to improve specialty pharmacy knowledge and drive specialty product adoption
- Understand customers, competitors, clients, and teammates to develop market insights on Specialty Pharmacy requirements and product strategy
- Identify and execute on vendor partnership opportunities
- Manages all end-to-end functions relating to the Specialty Pharmacy PBM business- Including Specialty strategy, specialty clinical, specialty product and specialty strategic account management

Required Qualifications:
- Current and unrestricted Pharmacist, Nursing or Physician license (Rph, RN or MD/DO)
- 8+ years of pharmacy leadership-level operational experience
- 5+ years within specialty pharmacy selling healthcare services capabilities to companies, providers, and/or members
- 3+ years of experience directly working with clients in the health plan, PBMs and/or specialty pharmacy industry
- Ability to travel up to 25%

- Pharmacist license

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $156,400 to $268,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
