Vice President of Pharmacy Fulfillment is responsible for pharmacy operations including oversight for the Home Delivery, Specialty, and multidose pharmacy operations and teams, partnering closely with the various functions that support in Supply Chain, Automation/Engineering/Maintenance, Front-End Operations, Loss Prevention, Customer Service, Pharmacy Practice, Consumer Strategy, Quality, Product, Finance, Human Capital, Client Management, and Enabling Services. This position is responsible for working with the organization to strategically and tactically develop, align, and execute fulfillment and distribution operations to meet business demand and improve patient/customer experience. This position will provide strategic direction and leadership for multiple pharmacy fulfillment centers and field operations, apply accountability standards based on key metrics, implement change to continuously improve performance and increase workflow efficiencies, and be accountable for delivering on performance and financial objectives. This position will provide coaching, mentoring and support in the development of staff and recognize individual and team success.

Principal Duties: 

  • Work closely with leadership in setting operational, business, and financial objectives for pharmacy operations defined by existing and evolving operational and growth plans
  • Conduct regular business reviews with field leaders to monitor performance, progress, and achievement of business and financial objectives
  • Work with onsite pharmacy leadership, Process Engineering, Supply Chain, Automation, and Quality teams to ensure processes are established to problem-solve issues and ensure ongoing continuous improvement
  • Partner with Quality Team to ensure quality and safety programs/processes are established to ensure quality standards are achieved, and employee safety policies are established, implemented, and adhered to
  • Ensure all regulatory and compliance requirements are adhered to through regular process review, inspection, and audits
  • Collaborate across Home Delivery and Specialty organizations to recommend and implement operational changes/enhancements to improve member experience and Net Promoter Score
  • Partner with the Supply Chain organization to support in-stock and inventory positioning, and fulfillment, logistics, shipping, and carrier/vendor capabilities and performance
  • Foster a team environment that sets high standards of operations and performance, engages and inspires others to perform at their best, rigorously identifies and develops key individuals with the critical capabilities needed by the organization
  • Ensure inventory control processes/measures are maintained for all products within the pharmacy fulfillment centers including inbound receiving, proper put away and storage, tracking and tracing, cycle counting, packing, outbound shipping, damages, resends, return and disposal
  • Lead, model, and influence behaviors that support UHG’s cultural values, employee engagement, teamwork and collaboration, diversity and inclusion
  • Partner with the People Team on talent management and succession planning, consistent application of and adherence to policies, talent planning, hiring and promotions, corrective action and other employee relations solutions
  • Engage and interact with pharmacy leadership and employees and regularly facilitate communication to measure employee engagement and satisfaction
  • Represent Fulfillment/Distribution Operations on client-facing and member issues
  • Play a key role in establishing new employee training/onboarding processes for new and existing pharmacy operations to ensure consistency across sites, employee proficiency, quality and safety processes/standards are adhered to, and appropriate sign-offs are executed
  • Assist in determining sequencing and centralized roll-out of all process/policy changes, technology implementations, enhancements, and fixes, and fulfillment site plans
  • Responsible for the coordination of communication between field and Ops/Engineering/IT teams to ensure appropriate parties are engaged in testing and implementation of all changes/enhancements to ensure flawless execution
  • Lead the adoption and utilization of technology solutions/applications to improve productivity, efficiency, and throughput, streamline fulfillment/distribution processes, manage and balance workflow, and optimize speed and cost of shipping
  • Work with field leaders to identify issues with existing best practices and standard operating procedures to determine resolution and ensure standardization across network
  • Identify and address emerging performance trends through close partnership with Reporting, Finance, Automation/Engineering/Maintenance, and Quality Teams
  • Partner with broader OptumRx teams to understand and correct end-to-end fulfillment/pharmacy/member processes/issues and enhance overall capabilities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional leaders and business partners on large-scale projects, operational changes and implementations to ensure change management plans are in place for flawless execution
  • Collaborate with Front End Pharmacy Operations and Customer Service to identify resend issues and implement solutions to minimize
  • Monitor and communicate monthly progress and quarterly results of employee incentive programs
  • Assist with leading/facilitating Fulfillment/Distribution Operations team calls and meetings

Required Qualifications: 

  • 10+ years of leadership experience
  • 8+ years of experience leading in fulfillment, distribution, manufacturing operations or leading a large network of regional pharmacies or Engineering/Sourcing/Supply Chains/eCommerce
  • 8+ years building, leading and developing teams
  • Prior experience managing a budget and/or P&L
  • Expertise within Inventory management, demand planning, logistics and supply chain execution 
  • Proven ability to define expectations in ambiguous environments with the ability to influence change at all levels across the organization
  • Expertise in Operational efficiency and effectiveness 
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50%
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities: Influencing skills, strategy, good communication/collaboration with multiple level partners, numerical reasoning, understanding of data and business intelligence functions, verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualification:

  • Certifications: Six Sigma Green Belt
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $196,600 to $337,100 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
