We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Strategic Planning, Business Management and Operations Leader to join our Community Pharmacy team. This role is critical in actively driving and executing strategy, enabling transformation, oversight of business planning processes, and ensuring alignment with the pharmacy business goals and priorities.   

This individual will provide strategic, high-level oversight and serve as a unifying connector within the Community Pharmacy ecosystem across PharmScript, Genoa, and beyond.  Near-term focus will be on strengthening the oversight and management of the recently acquired Pharmscript business to achieve its business plan, financial commitments, and transaction strategic rationale.  Longer-term focus will be solidifying the operational model and practices to endure ongoing organic growth and additional planned acquisition expansion across the United States.  

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in strategic planning, transformation, and operational leadership, with a proven track record of managing complex and scaled initiatives within the complex matrix environment. Collaboration with the Community Pharmacy CEO and combined Genoa and PharmScript leadership team, PharmScript President and overall OptumRx leadership including matrix partners to influence operational vision and strategy for the business will be necessary. This role will report direct to the Community Pharmacy (Genoa & PharmScript) CEO and work closely with the PharmScript President.

 

If you are located in the Eastern Time Zone (EST), you will have the flexibility to telecommute* as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning and Business Management

  • Strategically overseeing all products in the PharmScript business portfolio
  • Develop Pharmscript as the Community pharmacy platform approach as the Long-Term Care pharmacy delivery standard creating capacity and opportunity for additional acquisitions in the form of both “tuck-in” and platform regional expansion
  • Defining integrated strategies & ensuring alignment with the broader Community Pharmacy strategy
  • Design and develop an integrated strategy for PharmScript planning and execution pre and post integration
  • Drive business planning processes and strategy, provide insight and recommendations while ensuring alignment with broader pharmacy business goals and priorities
  • Work collaboratively across Community Pharmacies to deliver PharmScript transformation objectives and goals
  • Work cross-organizationally to identify and execute new business opportunities to grow both organically and inorganically
  • Leverage and build pharmacy knowledge and experience to assess current and future market conditions and trends. Extract insights that drive strategies focused on growth, scale, and consumer impact

Business Transformation

  • Drives transformation strategy, change management, process optimization, data analysis, and project management to ensure successful transformation and alignment with overall business goals

P&L Oversight

  • Day to day oversight of PharmScript P&L
  • Responsible for the financial performance of the PharmScript business, ensuring profitability by managing revenue generation and cost controls
  • In partnership with Finance / Accounting analyze the P&L, identifying trends, and taking corrective actions to address any deviations from the plan

Sales, Growth, & M&A

  • Oversight of the PharmScript sales and growth strategy, sales pipeline, and at-risk sites
  • Partner with the Sales team to drive a 5-year roadmap for growth ranging from shared space in existing locations to new pharmacy builds and M&A acquisitions
  • Oversight of market opportunities and new product / collaboration ideas in partnership with Community Pharmacies

Drives Cross-Enterprise Collaboration & Alignment:

  • Assist leadership across PharmScript to create better alignment and develop unified approaches with the UHG enterprise partners (Optum Rx, OptumCare, OptumHealth, UHC, UHG Shared services, etc.)
  • Partner with Client Success and key stakeholders to build an enhanced customer retention strategy for the PharmScript business
  • Serve as a broader enterprise connection point for business strategy, growth, best practices, and optimization
  • Establish and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Strategic Communication

  • Effectively communicate financial performance, strategies, and initiatives to stakeholders, including senior management, teams, and potentially external partners
  • Supports the development of communications tools used to engage PharmScript staff in our core priorities, performance messages, etc.
  • Facilitates the development and communication of PharmScript “value story” to key stakeholders
  • Design, build, and prepare materials needed for high impact MBR,’ QBR’s, and other meetings

Enterprise Talent Steward

  • Create opportunities to develop and engage talent across PharmScript and the broader Community Pharmacy organization

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree
  • 15+ years of professional experience in strategic planning, transformation, and/or operational leadership
  • Highly influential, strategic thinker, willing to challenge siloed thinking and drive change at all levels of the organization
  • Self-starter with a track record of driving programs and projects in a matrix environment with a demonstrated history of managing complex and scaled initiatives
  • Deep understanding of strategy, operations, reporting, and forecasting with a demonstrated ability to quickly aggregate and analyze information and draw conclusions
  • Experienced collaborator with demonstrated success working seamlessly across multiple stakeholders
  • Experience successfully translating a vision into results and leading enterprise-level strategies
  • Solid communicator with proven ability to present ideas, influence stakeholders, and engage executive audiences through excellent writing and presentation skill
  • Able to handle highly confidential or sensitive information in a professional, discreet manner
  • Ability to travel between 25-50%
  • Reside in EST time zone

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or equivalent
  • Experience working in the specialized pharmacy industry

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $196,600 to $337,100 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
