VP, Strategic Partnerships Lead, is a visionary and solution-oriented role accountable for driving cross-Optum Life Sciences strategic partnerships with top life sciences and pharmaceutical companies. This role will be overseeing multiple high-impact, concurrent deals, helping set the partnership vision and strategic direction, and leading early internal workstreams. This role will be client-facing throughout the opportunity development, through the discovery and design phases, and ensuring continuity through the implementation phases. Over time, this role will build and lead a dedicated partnerships team focused on servicing key strategic partnership accounts.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead cross-functional teams responsible for the execution of strategic partnerships with prioritized Optum Life Sciences clients
    • Design a multi-year partnership strategy for onboarded partners
    • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, innovative solutions, and growth strategies to expand the scope and impact of strategic partnerships
    • Lead the development of new client proposals, concepts, and content, ensuring successful contracting
    • Oversee risk assessment and mitigation strategies for partnership initiatives, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations
    • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success and impact of strategic partnerships, providing regular reports to executive leadership
    • Work with business teams and clients to prioritize OLS product components for inclusion and a prioritized roadmap 
    • Present detailed recommendations to clients; participate in demos and provide subject matter expertise perspectives 
  • Mentor and develop a team of partnership professionals
    • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the team
    • Provide guidance and support to team members in managing strategic partnership opportunities
    • Ensure the team is aligned with the strategic vision and goals of Optum Life Sciences
  • Develop expertise and fluency regarding Optum Life Sciences products and services
  • Foster and maintain productive relationships with C-Suite and senior-level client executives
  • Provide regular communication to management on client concerns and feedback
  • Maintain an ongoing knowledge of clients’ business and contracts with Optum
  • Travel to client sites may be required (Up to 25%)

Required Qualifications: 

  • 15+ years in a leadership role within healthcare, Pharma or life sciences companies
  • Demonstrated track record of productive relationships with C-Suite and senior-level client executives
  • Demonstrated excellent negotiation, influencing, collaboration and listening skills
  • Proven ability to operate and effectively navigate in a highly complex, matrix environment
  • Proven ability to successfully negotiate complex internal operating environments with a high level of collaboration
  • Able to travel up to 25% 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Life sciences strategy consulting experience
  • Advanced consultative selling skills with the ability to successfully construct solutions
  • Understanding of healthcare to include financial acumen, product, operations, technology operations, and data
  • Deep understanding of and experience with UnitedHealth Group’s enterprise, business units, and capabilities

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $156,400 to $268,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
