Do you enjoy working across complex delivery landscapes, coaching teams, and facilitating flow of value at scale? If you’re passionate about agile leadership and want to make a real impact in UK healthcare, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re looking for a Release Train Engineer to join Optum UK – a key leadership role within our Agile Release Train (ART). You’ll be supporting Product Owners, Engineers and Delivery Leads to deliver strategic outcomes, foster innovation, and champion agile best practices across the value stream.

What you’ll do

As a Release Train Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of our scaled agile delivery, guiding multiple Agile teams and enabling them to deliver high-quality software that supports better healthcare outcomes. You’ll facilitate key ceremonies, remove impediments, and drive alignment across teams and stakeholders.

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Leading Program Increment (PI) Planning and ART ceremonies, ensuring readiness and smooth execution

  • Coaching Agile teams and promoting a culture of continuous improvement and innovation

  • Supporting backlog refinement and economic decision-making with Product Management

  • Driving flow of value through the ART using agile metrics and flow optimisation techniques

  • Collaborating with Release Management and Solution Delivery to align release schedules and documentation

  • Facilitating retrospectives and Inspect & Adapt sessions to embed learning and improve processes

  • Managing risks, dependencies and change across ARTs and functions

  • Representing Optum UK at industry events and contributing to audit activities (e.g. ISO 27001/9001)

Who you’ll be

We’re looking for someone who’s pragmatic, collaborative and passionate about agile delivery. You’ll be a natural coach and facilitator, able to communicate effectively across all levels of the business and inspire teams to deliver their best work.

  • Responsible – a self-starter with a drive for improvement and a focus on outcomes

  • Collaborative – a relationship builder who engages stakeholders and fosters alignment

  • Transformative – a strategic thinker who helps shape the future of agile delivery

Supportive – an inspirational leader who cares about team growth and development

If this sounds like you, and you’re ready to help shape the future of healthcare technology, we’d love to hear from you.

Key skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • Experience with agile methodologies including SAFe, Scrum, Kanban, AgilePM or DSDM

  • Proven track record of leading Agile teams and facilitating scaled agile delivery

  • Excellent communication, planning and organisational skills

  • Experience working with distributed teams and offshore development

  • Comfortable managing risks, dependencies and change in complex environments
