As a Director of Regulatory Affairs, you will lead a team of regulatory professionals who analyze new regulatory requirements, work closely with the business to understand the impact and obligations of those requirements, and support the business in understanding the evolving regulatory landscape.

 

It will be your job to determine how we can provide more value to our business teams and clients in a regulatory space. That requires big picture thinking and a keen, strategic mindset. In the meantime, you will be expected to monitor and drive new regulatory requirements.

 

You will be expected to take the helm and provide training and guidance on regulatory affairs and compliance throughout the business. Your challenge will be tracking and analyzing all new regulatory requirements. You’ll need to be rock solid in your role as the expert on regulatory changes and in understanding how these changes will affect the business, and communicating these changes in a meaningful way that will facilitate a stronger front-end compliance consistent with regulations. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and communicate complex newly enacted federal and state laws, regulations, and regulatory guidelines that impact various Optum businesses
  • Maintain awareness of current and emerging trends/changes in the regulatory environment, in particular federal laws and regulations
  • Lead a team of regulatory affairs professionals to manage regulatory requirements across multiple businesses, including complex federal regulations and technology-related federal and state requirements
  • Triage complex regulatory issues 
  • Cultivate and maintain solid collaborative relationships with business clients, and ORx business partners to maintain ongoing influence on regulatory matters
  • Collaborate with business partners to review, analyze and oversee/monitor implementation of regulatory requirements 
  • Utilize appropriate tools and processes to track new laws and regulations and implementation activity (State Net, LexisNexis, eGRC)

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience working in a regulatory role within health care, managed care and/or health insurance interpreting federal and state proposed or new laws
  • Experience working with health insurance entities and/or health care provider organizations 
  • Experience building relationships across business groups internally and outside the organization 
  • Experience directly managing a team in a regulatory or compliance setting
  • Proven solid analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple deliverables

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in healthcare data/analytics and related regulatory issues including interoperability, privacy, and artificial intelligence/machine learning  
  • Experience with federal regulatory requirements including requirements related to Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA, ACA/Healthcare Marketplace plans, non-discrimination, etc.
  • Ability to effectively understand and communicate detailed and complex information verbally and written with others. Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Intermediate experience with legal research applications (such as Lexis), and experience using technology to support regulatory affairs work including artificial intelligence tools

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $132,200 to $226,600 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
