The Technology Development Program (TDP) internship at Optum includes a 10-week experience where you’ll gain invaluable experience working on some of our many domains, as well as mentoring from technology leaders, networking across the technology organization and collaboration opportunities. The program creates a cohort structure that provides a more personalized employment experience in turn creating community and increasing engagement beyond that of a traditional hire.
The intent of our internship program is to create a pipeline for future opportunities, including return internships or full-time employment at Optum, depending on eligibility, performance, and business needs.
Key Information Regarding the TDP Internship Program:

The TDP internship program places interns on teams with fellow TDP interns to work on meaningful and impactful projects throughout the summer. The TDP intern team will have the ability to present their work to mentors and leaders on multiple occasions, allowing for iteration and continued progress.

This full-time intern position will start on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, and end on Aug 7, 2026. Alternate start and end dates are not available

The TDP Intern will be required to work in-office five days a week

Required Qualifications of the Technology Development Program Intern:
-
Currently pursuing 2-year technical college degree, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field such as IT, MIS, or other technology-focused disciplines or equivalent experience
-
Basic understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Large Language Models (LLMs), with demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity and problem-solving

Must be actively enrolled in an accredited College / University or 2-year technical college during the duration of the internship. Internships are not intended for graduating seniors

Proficient in one or more coding languages (Example: Python, Java, C, SQL, .NET)

Involvement in any additional technical activities (Robotics, Comp. Science/Tech clubs, Tech or Engineering side projects, GitHub, etc.) and/or tech related employment experience

Cloud Technologies (AWS, Azure, and/or GCP)

Experience with software engineering tools such as source code control systems (i.e. GIT, GitHub), IDE, Continuous Delivery and deployment pipeline, etc.

Understanding of Agile Frameworks, methodologies, roles, and tools (Kanban, Scrum, SaFE, LeSS, etc)

Must be eligible to work in Ireland without company sponsorship
