Optum Insight Technology and Engineering is a critical function in Optum Insight driving the innovation and value we provide our customers and partners. This team is focused on products, solutions, platform / enabling capability development, product development lifecycle, engineering excellence and connectivity to Optum Technology.
The Inpatient IT service delivery lead is responsible for overseeing the delivery of inpatient T service areas across a healthcare partner organization. This role will focus on managing relationships with middle to senior partner management and partner employees to ensure seamless delivery of technology systems within their domain focus area. The IT Service Delivery Lead will support patient care through collaboration with shared services, requiring a blend of customer relationship management, requirements gathering, project support, strong communication skills, and in-depth knowledge of healthcare IT environments.
You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and apply AI/ML solutions to transform Optum operations, including projects such as smart revenue management, automated medical coding, medical chart processing, and medical image analysis
- Collaborate with business and operations teams to translate complex requirements into actionable AI solutions and clearly communicate insights to leadership and stakeholders
- Design, train, and deploy ML models into production using techniques such as generative AI/LLMs, NLP/NLU, computer vision, deep learning, etc.
- Work with large-scale data and distributed computing frameworks to process and analyze high-volume healthcare datasets efficiently
- Apply advanced methodologies in statistics, optimization, probability theory, and machine learning to build tools, perform rigorous analysis, and deliver robust solutions using Python or similar languages
- Partner with engineering teams to implement scalable, flexible pipelines that bring AI innovations into real-world products
- Adapt to an agile, fast-paced environment, and maintain a passion for exploring and integrating cutting-edge AI technologies to support future projects

Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Math/Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Bioinformatics, or another technical field that provides strong mathematical training
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with at least one programing language, such as Java, Python, PySpark, or C++
- 3+ years of experience working with AI/ML, NLP, image processing, Generative AI, or related technologies
- Pproven track record of developing and deploying models in cloud environments like AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Demonstrate the ability to independently initiate and drive projects from conception through to completion
- Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts/results to both technical and non-technical audiences
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Math/Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Bioinformatics, or another technical field

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $71,200 to $127,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
