The Director, Regional Enablement is accountable for driving the overall success of an Optum Insight Payer region by partnering closely with regional leadership to align strategic priorities, enable execution against MBOs, and ensure growth and client success.

 

The Regional Enablement Leader plays a critical role in ensuring the overarching success of the Optum Insight payer market. This role is essential for positioning our regional teams to meet business objectives through robust governance, comprehensive processes, targeted training, and effective client management strategies. The Enablement Leader acts as the linchpin across the region’s team, identifying key themes and needs and proactively paving the path forward. This role is responsible for developing detailed plans, owning the rhythm of the business, and driving ongoing team and executive updates, covering support for a commercial region within the Payer Market. Regions in the Payer market are comprised of ~$300M+ in annual revenue and 100+ clients.  

 

Additionally, this role serves as the liaison to our shared services partners (i.e., growth / product) in partnership with the Market President. Together, they define and drive best practices for engagement, communication, and alignment between product and market teams to ensure cohesive representation and strategic execution.

 

Attainment of business objectives will be achieved through leadership competencies and practices including operational excellence, being the voice of the region, the ability to scale the business, lead in a matrix environment and drive growth by collaborating across other divisions within UnitedHealth Group.

 

This role requires an individual who understands how to get things done at Optum through influence by leveraging extensive interpersonal and collaboration skills. The regional enablement leader will have solid critical thinking skills, demonstrated success in driving complex growth and account plan strategies, outstanding cross-group organizational skills and agility, and highly effective communication skills (verbal and written).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide thought partnership and strategic/tactical leadership to Market Presidents around standup and ongoing/steady-state optimization region and sub-region teams
  • Strategic regional-based initiatives as identified within the market, examples include: Region specific detailed planning and ongoing updates to these plans; develop and engage across all regional teams and matrix partners on MBO target setting, governance and path to achieve with accountability
  • Identify market opportunities and engage with executive leadership to act on these opportunities – deep understanding of players, trends, competitors/vendors in seat for key offerings across the market
  • Lead team members across the matrix to develop approaches that increase the value we provide and increase the impact Optum has on the client’s business
  • Build relationships, drive day-to-day activities at the regional and sub-regional level to identify and resolve risks/opportunities in client management and growth strategy, talent/resourcing gaps, operational improvement gaps and opportunities 
  • Serve as the strategic connector between regional payer markets and product teams to ensure alignment, drive collective value, and accelerate effective product launches. Maintain ongoing governance and support to sustain product relevance and performance
  • Proactively identify and implement opportunities for standard operating procedure development across regions to promote consistency, efficiency, and clarity in role execution
  • Lead deal advancement committees and region-specific executive meetings across the business
  • Engage across the region to cross-share client issues, growth opportunities, and build initiatives list to increase overall performance of the market teams
  • Drive outcomes with internal matrix business stakeholders across Optum to ensure customer centricity, high NPS scores and renewal rates, delivery against customer needs and expectations, profitable growth, and representation for the voice of the customer in our current and future products and technologies
  • Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within the company.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in some combination of account management, sales enablement, consulting and/or strategy
  • Proven experience and expertise in healthcare
  • Proven exceptional communication, critical thinking, leadership and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated success in managing within a matrix environment – driving accountability and influencing within direct and indirect/matrixed spheres of control
  • Interest in, and demonstrated experience with, process improvement and methodology development

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting Optum Markets (Payers, Employers, Providers, Federal/State government, Emerging Markets)
  • Experience working across UHG, Optum and/or UHC lines of businesses
  • Direct experience working with product and technology teams
  • P&L experience
  • Experience in human capital/people management, budgeting, project management, operations and strategy 
  • Proven application of change management methodologies
  • Proficient skills and knowledge of servant leadership, resilience, resourcefulness, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $132,200 to $226,600 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
