This role on the Analytics Engineering team is based within Optum Insight as part of Payment Integrity Decision Intelligence(PIDI) organization. Optum is the technology and services division of UnitedHealth Group, the leading international health insurer. The roles of the Analytics Engineering team within PIDI include, but are not limited to analysis, design, coding, engineering, testing, debugging, standards, methods, tools analysis, documentation, research and development, maintenance, new development, operations, AI engineering and delivery. We are now looking for an additional Senior Software Engineer to enhance our Software Engineering capacity to develop the analytics, analytic applications and analytic platforms in support of our business insights.

As a key member of the Analytics Engineering Team, you will be part of UnitedHealth Group’s mission of helping people live healthier lives. You will work with other Software Engineers and Data Scientists along with subject matter experts to deliver code with high quality for our applications, products and services.

You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, code, test, document and high quality maintain server-side and client-side scalable applications using React/NextJS, TypeScript, and Python frameworks such as Django, Flask, or FastAPI ensuring code quality, efficiency, and adherence to best practices
  • Ensure seamless integration of front-end and back-end components to deliver fully functional systems
  • Collaborate with UI/UX designers to create user-friendly interfaces and ensure a seamless user experience
  • Design and implement RESTful APIs and microservices architecture to facilitate communication between different components of the system
  • Develop data access layers and connect to relational and or NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB) for data storage retrieval, and manipulation
  • Maintain and support CICD processes using Github Actions to test and build software artifacts
  • Research, evaluate, and deploy new tools, frameworks and patterns to build a sustainable Analytic platform
  • Identify gaps and opportunities for improvement of existing solutions
  • Be innovative in solution design and development to meet the needs of the business
  • Assist in defining product technical architecture 
  • Make accurate development effort estimates to assist management in project and resource planning 
  • Create prototypes, proof-of-concepts & design and code reviews 
  • Collaborate with management, quality assurance, architecture, and other development teams
  • Write technical documentation and participate in production support

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of hands-on Software Development experience
  • 5+ years of development experience with React/NextJS and Python
  • Experience with Spark/PySpark and Databricks
  • Experience in developing applications on at least one major cloud platform (Azure preferred)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
  • Healthcare experience
  • NoSQL databases, Docker and Kubernetes

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $89,900 to $160,600 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
