Optum’s Provider Technology Consulting practice is a clinically oriented health IT consulting group within Optum. We have a holistic approach to the implementation and optimization of Electronic Health Record (EHR) and associated clinical technology solutions. Our approach includes clinical workflow redesign, technical solution design, stakeholder engagement, education, and reporting capabilities to help health systems prepare for and thrive under value-based and risk-based models by focusing on three constituencies critical to care delivery: providers and their care teams, patients, and payers.
We are looking for a Technical Integration Architect to join our leadership team. This role will assist our clients both internal and external in their efforts to solve challenging issues while delivering excellent results. This individual will successfully manage multiple client engagements and ensure clients derive value from their ongoing partnership with Optum Advisory. This role will serve as a subject matter expert for integration and product advisory domains in support of business development and delivery with existing and new clients. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of achieving results, building relationships, and a solid customer focus.
You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage the development and delivery of a best practice technical integration program
- Collaborate with consulting and marketing leadership to articulate and represent the value proposition of the practice’s integration and product advisory services in sales collateral
- Partner with UHG teams and external stakeholders to support the design of EHR integration architecture for a wide variety of products and technical assets with unique needs seeking to integrate with leading EHR vendors in the US and Europe
- Establish and maintain relationships with key client stakeholders, Epic and/or other 3rd party vendor representatives
- Provide leadership and strategic direction for delivery teams; hold workstream engagement leaders accountable for performance and coordinate support on complex and challenging tasks
- Oversee the development and maintenance of detailed project plans (including resource assignments, schedules, dependencies, etc.) and provide internal and external senior stakeholders with routine project updates or communication as needed for escalations, break/fix, optimization, etc.
- Be familiar and stay up to date with regulatory requirements relevant to technical scope
- Foster innovation and coordinate with Epic or other EHRs, internal team and clients to implement beneficial new functionality, workflow enhancements, integration options and upgrades within reasonable timelines
- Assess opportunities for technology integration improvements with data in collaboration with other teams to understand workflows, define problems, and recommend and implement clinical solutions
- Collaborate with the team and clients in the creation of business cases for new technologies or technology projects, including cost/benefit analysis for system selection efforts and budget considerations related to technology
- Ensure all team members successfully complete all required job training, including certifications, and keep required certifications up to date
- Utilize data, industry trends, and best practices to support the development of consulting methodologies that will address current challenges facing health systems related to the adoption and use of health IT as well as driving achievement toward client-specific organizational objectives and strategic goals
- Mentor team to accurately diagnose the issues the client has identified (as well as underlying issues), and determine the appropriate solutions that will lead the client to achieve best practice performance specific to clinical workflows
- Communicate effectively and accurately in writing and verbally to prospects, clients, partners, and other staff
- Collaborate on process improvements within the EHR Services team and participate in process improvement efforts

Required Qualifications:
- Current certification in Epic Bridges and/or other Epic applications
- 7+ years of experience in the Healthcare Information Technology (IT) domains
- 5+ years of technical, integration, and support experience including interfaces, integration engines (example Rhapsody, Cloverleaf, Mirth) and interoperability standards (HL7 v2, FHIR, X12, APIs)
- Consulting experience with a focus on analyzing and interpreting client needs and creating value through professional product delivery
- Experience at a fast-paced and agile company, managing multiple projects concurrently, solid communication and relationship management skills with experience working across all levels, from administrative to executive
- Aptitude to support BD initiatives and working closely with teams to drive growth opportunities including speaking with clients at the Director and c-suite level
- Proficiency in Smartsheet, Visio, Microsoft Project, Excel, PowerPoint, or similar tools for managing projects and deliverables
- Proven ability to complete projects according to outlined scope, budget, and timeline
- Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and influence others, including working across different groups to drive commonality and reusability in solution design
- Willing or ability to travel up to 25% annually
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Project Management
- Experience with open.epic data sharing and developer tools
- Proven experience with EHRs and clinical solutions (e.g., Epic, Oracle Health, 3rd party integrated solutions)
- In-depth knowledge of EHR and the full implementation lifecycle of an electronic medical record application from conception through development into production
- Familiarity with healthcare provider workflows and systems
- Familiarity with HIPAA security and privacy regulations
- Familiarity with process improvement and software development methodologies (like Agile)
- History of integrating applications with EHR technologies (preferably with Epic)

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $112,700 to $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
