This position is for a Trainer supporting the Optum Shared Services RCM business operations, to include Acute and Ambulatory, Acute and Ambulatory Patient Financial Services- PFS. The responsibilities of this position will be to deliver the training curriculum needed to support the business units serviced. The person will deliver process, procedure and systems training for multiple claim platforms and ancillary systems associated with Optum or its clients through the UHG cultural/values lens. May also deliver soft skills training. The candidate will work closely with the Operational Teams to identify training opportunities and implement strategies to conduct that training and make the staff more efficient.
This position is full time (40 hours/week) Monday – Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00 am – 5:00 pm CST. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.
This will be on the job training and the hours during training will be 8:00 am – 5:00 pm EST, Monday – Friday.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging, effective training on Epic back end workflows, including:
- Billing/Claim Edit workflows
- AR follow up and collections
- Denials workflows (CARC/RARC handling)
- Workqueue (WQ) management, prioritization, and clean up techniques
- Facilitate training in virtual environment
- Assess learner competency and provide ongoing coaching and support
- Partner with SMEs and operational leaders to maintain training materials and update content when workflows, policies, or system changes occur
- Translate complex Epic system functionality into clear, accessible learning content
- Support onboarding for new staff and upskill tenured teams as workflows evolve
- Collaborate with Quality and Operations teams to identify performance gaps and tailor training solutions

Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma / GED
- Must be 18 years of age OR older
- 2+ years of hands on Epic Resolute experience (Hospital Billing (HB) and/or Professional Billing (PB)) in at least two of the following areas:
- AR follow up and collections
- Billing and Claims Edits
- Denials management
- Payment posting and reconciliation
- Revenue Integrity processes
- 2+ years of experience delivering training in a business operations, corporate, or revenue cycle environment
- Understanding of back end revenue cycle operations in acute and/or ambulatory settings, including billing life cycle, claim adjudication, and payer behavior
- Experience facilitating training across diverse audiences (vendors, internal staff, leadership, early career learners)
- Proficiency with virtual training platforms (WebEx, Teams, Zoom)
- Agility in adapting training to adult learning styles
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
- Ability to work full time (40 hours/week), Monday – Friday, with flexibility for occasional overtime or weekend needs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing or updating training content for Epic back end workflows
- Experience working directly in AR follow up, denials, billing, or revenue integrity teams
- Familiarity with Claim Edit tools, clearinghouse edits, and Epic’s error resolution logic
- Experience working with Epic WQs, routing rules, and workflow optimization
- Epic Certification or Proficiency in HB or PB Resolute
- Experience training on CARC/RARC usage and denial workflow remediation

- Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
- Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $28.94 – $51.63 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
