Todays’ RCM is inherently complex due to opaque and payer-specific adjudication rules, incurring significant waste and inefficiency. Optum Insight is committed to delivering new technology and processes to improve the Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) workflow using advances in Gen AI and other state-of-the-art technology that would ultimately benefit all stakeholders involved in the healthcare ecosystem — payers, providers, and patients.

As a Senior Principal Designer, you will be the glue that enables better design through innovation, working on high impact consumer moments and solving the most complex and compelling problems in the healthcare space. You will design with and for our members and consumers, learn from and improve our community of practice and have a direct impact on health outcomes at the biggest scale in the world.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participating in translating complex ideas into understandable concepts that evolve and enhance the product experience
  • Collaborate with technology, product, operations, and business teams to uncover customer and business pain points, gaps and opportunities needs – then translating them into experience
  • Make and guide effective decisions, explaining clearly how the decision has been reached
  • Advocate for the customer through collaborative design activities to influence others and build consensus through activities including, design research, service blueprinting, collaborative work session design and facilitation, rapid prototyping, and frame working to strategically define experiences across touchpoints
  • Facilitate design workshops to build alignment between cross functional teams
  • Proactively seek out strategic partnerships across organizations at every level, build solid relationships with product, technology and other key stakeholders
  • Lead prioritization of consumer centric enhancements grounded in research and analysis
  • Partner with researchers to understand customer needs and define opportunities using various research methodologies
  • Design cross channel experiences to identify opportunities and solutions for improvement and experimentation
  • Excellent presentation, storytelling, and facilitation skills
  • Ability to accelerate team efficiency and effectiveness by introducing & improving systems and workflows
  • Lead, manage, delegate work to a small team of designers

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in service design, design strategy, innovation, future state design, human-centered design, or design thinking tools and methods
  • Proven experience working with cross functional stakeholders including technology, product, operations, business, analytics, Voice of the customer, etc.
  • Familiarity with / exposure to design, prototyping, and collaborations tools, such as Figma, FigJam, Miro, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Axure RP
  • Experience crafting a project vision, concepting, ideation and iterative prototyping
  • Experience presenting to and managing stakeholders
  • Demonstrated readiness to lead a team of 2-3 designers 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mentor and lead other designers
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including exceptional listening and consultative capabilities and writing skills
  • Solid influencing skills across teams, engage stakeholders, facilitate conversations to understand change readiness, manage differences and create buy-in
  • Systems thinking and the ability to break down complex initiatives into easily digestible and actionable steps
