We are seeking a strategic and experienced UX Design System person to champion the integrity, consistency, and scalability of our multi-brand, multi-platform design system. This role is pivotal in ensuring that UX/UI standards are upheld and governance processes are effectively implemented across all digital touch points.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Governance & Standards Oversight:
    • Define, implement, and maintain digital governance framework and processes
    • Ensure adherence to UX standards, accessibility guidelines, and brand consistency across all digital products
    • Monitor compliance and provide actionable feedback to product and design teams
  • Design System Stewardship:
    • Oversee the evolution and adoption of Abyss design system across multiple brands, platforms and products
    • Collaborate with Abyss design system team to ensure components meet usability, accessibility, and performance standards
    • Facilitate cross-functional alignment on design principles and usage guidelines
    • Lead a team of designers to manage and maintain extension libraries from the core Abyss design system, and continually evolve the library to better fit product needs
    • Work with senior leadership to develop a contribution model
  • Leadership & Mentorship:
    • Mentor UX designers and product teams on best practices in digital governance and design system usage
    • Foster a culture of design excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement
    • Lead governance working groups and facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions with key stakeholders
  • Strategic Planning & Execution:
    • Develop and execute a UX governance roadmap aligned with business and digital transformation goals
    • Identify opportunities for process optimization and innovation within the governance model
    • Partner with senior leadership to advocate for UX governance priorities and resource allocation
  • Stakeholder & Organizational Management:
    • Build strong relationships with product owners, developers, brand managers, and other stakeholders
    • Act as a liaison between design, development, and business teams to ensure governance alignment
    • Communicate governance decisions and updates clearly and effectively across the organization
    • 20% strategic, 40% managerial, 40% tactical

Required Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience in design systems
  • 1+ years of experience managing direct reports
  • Accomplished in skillset, proficient in managing people
  • Oversee a portfolio/journey and a small team
  • Experience in leading digital governance, or design systems leadership
  • Proven experience managing or contributing to enterprise-level design systems
  • Solid understanding of UX principles, accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG), and digital brand management
  • Excellent leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder management skills
  • Exceptional communication and organizational abilities

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strategic thinker with a track record of implementing scalable governance processes
  • Experience as a front-end engineer, and/or project management

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits re subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $110,200 to $188,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
