Our Responsible AI program, which includes AI governance, supports all AI teams across UnitedHealth Group with a holistic, structured, and cross-disciplined review of AI.

As part of our Responsible AI (RAI) Program, the Associate Director of Training and Communications will lead the development and execution of a comprehensive education strategy that supports ethical, transparent and compliant AI practices across the enterprise. This newly created role will be instrumental in embedding RAI principles into the culture and operations of UnitedHealth Group.

This role will be responsible for the frontline communication and engagement approach for Responsible AI, ensuring consistent messaging across platforms, documentation, guidance, and training. You will assess RAI Program guidance, content and training needs to build a strategic content delivery plan to meet RAI upskilling needs with just-in-time, audience-specific resources that are easy to find and digest. This role will work with stakeholders across Technology, Clinical, and broader enterprise leadership to ensure guidance and content is aligned with broader communications, training and development strategies. You will use your expertise and high judgment to identify opportunities for continuous improvement throughout the program, balance shifting priorities toward the overall mission of the program. This role is ideal for a strategic thinker and execution-focused leader who thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and is passionate about ethical technology and compliance. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Responsible AI Governance and collaborates closely with Legal, Compliance, Data Science, and Technology teams.

You will build on your knowledge of artificial intelligence concepts to attain expertise on topics related to the Responsible AI, such as how to evaluate AI for performance, fairness, or security. In this central role, you will influence across the enterprise by interacting with data science leaders and functional business executives to educate and advise on key concepts related to responsible AI. This role is essential to the company’s success as the RAI Program has increasing requirements for standards based on emerging technology and to meet the increasing market demand.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a strategic training and communications roadmap to support Responsible AI literacy and compliance across business units
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across Technology, Clinical, Legal, Compliance, and Enterprise Communications to ensure alignment and integration of RAI content into enterprise learning platforms
  • Develop audience-specific, just-in-time learning materials that are accessible, engaging, and aligned with regulatory and internal policy requirements
  • Lead the creation of internal communications campaigns to promote awareness and adoption of Responsible AI practices
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and continuously improve content based on feedback, metrics, and evolving industry standards
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and advisor on Responsible AI training and communication best practices
  • Represent the RAI Program in internal forums and working groups focused on AI risk, compliance, and innovation enablement

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in training, communications, or change management, preferably in a regulated industry
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering enterprise-wide training programs
  • Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional initiatives with multiple stakeholders
  • Solid understanding of AI governance, compliance, or digital ethics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex topics into clear, actionable content

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in program or project management, preferably in a compliance, risk, or governance function
  • Experience in healthcare, life sciences, or regulated industries
  • Experience working in a matrixed organization with cross-functional teams
  • Understanding of AI governance frameworks (e.g., NIST AI RMF, OECD Principles, EU AI Act)
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) and digital content platforms

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $110,200 to $188,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
