The Tech Project Manager leads complex technology and data initiatives that support strategic business objectives across Optum Insight's Life Sciences & Data organization. This role connects business stakeholders and technical teams, helping ensure initiatives are well planned, governed, delivered, and transitioned into production in alignment with organizational priorities.

The position supports projects involving clinical data, real-world data, analytics, new data assets, data onboarding, integrations, and technology implementations. The Tech Project Manager works across Product, Engineering, Data Science, Architecture, Compliance, Privacy, Legal, Data Governance, and Operations to translate business needs into executable plans and drive delivery from initiation through implementation.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Lead complex technology, data, analytics, and transformation initiatives from planning through implementation and production deployment
• Partner with business and technical stakeholders to define project objectives, scope, requirements, timelines, deliverables, and success measures
• Facilitate requirements-gathering activities and maintain clear documentation of business and functional requirements
• Develop and manage project plans, milestones, schedules, dependencies, implementation activities, and cross-functional deliverables
• Coordinate work across Product, Engineering, Data Science, Architecture, Compliance, Privacy, Legal, Data Governance, and Operations
• Establish project governance and provide visibility into project health, risks, issues, dependencies, decisions, and mitigation plans
• Drive implementation and operational readiness, including deployment planning and transition to production support processes
• Prepare and deliver project updates for senior leaders, clearly communicating status, risks, recommendations, and decisions needed
• Support the delivery of new data assets, analytics capabilities, integrations, platform enhancements, and process improvements
• Promote accountability, consistency, and continuous improvement in project execution and delivery practices
• Help maintain alignment among business priorities, technical execution, and operational outcomes

Required Qualifications:

• 3+ years of project management or related experience supporting technology, data, analytics, engineering, or transformation initiatives
• Experience working with technology, engineering, analytics, or data-focused teams
• Experience gathering, documenting, and managing business or functional requirements
• Experience managing project plans, timelines, risks, issues, dependencies, and status reporting
• Experience coordinating cross-functional stakeholders and driving alignment across teams
• Experience communicating project updates, risks, recommendations, and decisions to senior leaders and stakeholders
• Technical fluency and understanding of solution development and implementation lifecycles
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Visio (or process/data flow mapping tools), and Microsoft PowerPoint
• Ability to travel up to 10%

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience supporting data onboarding, data integration, data governance, or related data initiatives
• Experience working with clinical data, real-world data, healthcare data, financial data, or enterprise data warehouse environments
• Experience supporting life sciences, provider, healthcare technology, or related industries
• Experience partnering with business analysts, data teams, engineering teams, or technical stakeholders to define requirements and support project delivery
• Experience using Smartsheet
• Experience creating executive-level presentations and communications
• Experience using Microsoft Copilot or other approved AI productivity tools to improve planning, communication, documentation, or decision support
• Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, hybrid, or other project delivery approaches

Role Positioning

This is a project leadership role focused on technology, data, analytics, AI-enabled capabilities, and platform initiatives. It emphasizes planning, governance, stakeholder coordination, execution, readiness, and delivery outcomes. It is not a hands-on data analyst, software engineer, data engineer, construction project manager, hospital operations manager, or administrative project coordinator position.

AI Persona: AI User

The role is expected to use approved AI tools and productivity capabilities to improve efficiency, communication, planning, documentation, project reporting, and decision support. The role is not accountable for enterprise AI strategy or AI governance.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $72,800 - $130,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
