UnitedHealthcare's Medical Policy team seeks an Editorial Assistant to support Clinical Documentation Standardization and publication process. This individual will be responsible for ensuring that medical policy documents driving standardization and transparency move efficiently through editorial workflows. The role includes maintaining content accuracy and formatting standards, in compliance with medical publications standards, and supporting large-scale clinical documentation standardization efforts across multiple clinical, enterprise and operational stakeholders. The role is critical to the success of UHC in AHIP initiatives and commitments. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working within complex workflows.

This position is full time (40 hours / week), Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm local time.

We offer weeks of on-the-job training. The hours of the training will be based on schedule or will be discussed on your first day of employment (outside of onboarding training).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the standardization of clinical documentation across medical policies, including language, structure, terminology, and formatting.
  • Participate in the development of the house style guide and perform research as needed
  • Assist the medical copy editor with copyediting, proofreading, and formatting of clinical documentation standardization, medical policies and related documents, reinforcing and maintaining consistency in terminology, abbreviations, and style across a large medical policy library
  • Perform initial reviews of documents to ensure adherence to established formatting guidelines; identify inconsistencies and escalate as needed
  • Maintain large reference libraries (e.g., EndNote), ensuring compliance with copyright laws and department workflows.
  • Communicate with policy writers and medical directors as needed to ensure timely completion of projects, updates, and approvals
  • Maintain version control and document integrity across policy revisions
  • Track documents through the editorial and approval workflow
  • Maintain document records and metadata in content management systems
  • Assist with updating workflows, templates, and documentation processes
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and consistency

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Must be 18 years of age OR older
  • 1+ years of experience as an editorial assistant or copy editor at a pharmaceutical, medical device, or biotechnology company; medical journal; medical communications agency, contract research organization (CRO); or academic setting
  • Experience with managing documents and tracking workflows
  • Formatting, proofreading, and copyediting skills
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail, organizational abilities, and time management skills
  • Interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively with a large and diverse team
  • Proactive attitude with a willingness to learn, innovate, and adapt in a fast-paced setting
  • Ability to work any of our full time (40 hours / week), 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm local time from Monday - Friday

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with AMA Manual of Style, 11th edition style
  • Knowledge of reference management software (e.g., EndNote)
  • Knowledge of publishing ethics and copyright laws
  • Experience with using shared document collaboration (e.g., cloud-based content creation platforms)
  • Experience with publications in multiple therapeutic areas and disease states

Telecommuting Requirements:

  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, worka experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from  $60,200 - $107,400 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
